Is EVE worth getting into? It looks like fun, but I get that I'm not going to be in battles like the pic as a new player.
You can easily get in a battle like that, assuming there's your alliance is in a war at the time. Just don't expect to do anything more than shoot at what some one else tells you to shoot at.

Absolutely yes, conditionally. You have to have the time and attention span to dedicate to it. If you're the kind of guy that gets bored of a game after a while or has a busy schedule it's really not for you. There's always a lot to learn and do and a lot of time you need to spend learning and doing.
Getting into a corporation is almost necessary to your experience unless you REALLY want to go solo. Getting on with a fun crew of guys you can shoot the shit with on long ops is a godsend. Older players are also your best source of info, and it's great if they can teach you up front.

You certainly can, if that's what you want to do. Check around the community and see if the major alliances are gearing up for war, then study up on which side you might like to join. A lot of these big factions will nab you up, train you, outfit you, and send you to the battlefield, especially if they're in need of manpower. They control astronomical resources and are usually just happy to have a warm body to fly ships for them as long as you're not a completely incompetent moron.

no the game fucking sucks dick. it is literally for old people who can't play games that require any measure of skill so they play something that is just a time/money sink instead. I mean, unless that's what you're looking for, you shouldnt bother.
Eve online is literally what you make it in the purest sense.
I can go into hostile space that rarely gets used, put down expensive infrastructure, live off their space for months until they decide to blow up my infrastructure. OR i can convo them, talk to them like an IRL person, save my expensive infrastructure, join their alliance or become friends with them and help them out and they help me out ect ect.
You can spy for other alliances and man therea really just a lot to do.
I will say eve is at its fullest potential when you learn how to command fleets and become a big name FC. That the peak of large battle pvp fun.
Solo pvp is a different story. Watch a guy on jewtube named worstplayerever. Hes a solo pvp fucking legendary russian.
Tl;dr lots to do but you have to have a plan. The game is based ofd interracting with others and can teach you also a lot about IRL if you get deep enough. Either that, or you can just log in for CTA timers in your F1 monkey alliance and shoot doodz/get monies.
If you were social and active enough you would have tried it long ago.
