How long do you keep the box for a console before you throw it out?
I normally keep it for a few months.
i still have the box my atari 2600 came in

Until the warranty ends.

Unless I lose it unintentionally I never throw them away. Still have my genesis box, no clue where my 2 gamecube boxes went though. Usually I justify it as something to put in the box in case i need to move em but I never actually use them for that
I keep it for storage purposes
Forever but then I end up never selling them anyway so there's not much point.

This. It's a convenient way to store the console when you aren't using it, and looks quite nice when you are trying to sell the thing. There are some times which it isn't quite as handy (especially when you need to buy an additional controller for the thing) but overall it is a good way to maintain storage.
About the only time I don't have the boxes is if I never had it to begin with (buying the console used) or when the box itself is badly damaged.
I mean, hell, if you have the shelf space to keep your console hooked to your TV for twenty years, then you should have the closet space to store one extra box.
