you're describing a generic game.

a personal game can have a lot of soul poured into it by its single indie dev, but most people would classify it as soulless because it doesn't focus on characters and he doesn't have the time/skill/money to make animations for every little thing like FF Tactics

Brothers: a tale of two sons has awful platforming, brainless puzzles, a poorly implemented gimmick, broken controls (couldn't even get past the bridge in the snow with the spider girl part because the wheels just wouldn't turn), but it's highly rated on steam due to it's soulful emotional impact.

Said emotional impact is given by a couple of benches to sit and watch the generic (yet beautiful, anything can look beautiful if you pay artists) landscape and a boring (father is ill, two brothers go fetch his medicine, they get the medicine but one of them dies) yet tearjerking plot.

You don't even grow attached to the character due to good dialogues.

A friend of mine told me that Fire Emblem Awakening was superior to other Fire Emblem games because you could grind infinitely and inflate your numbers. Personally I don't think strategy RPGs should allow for grinding and certainly shouldn't be balanced around it. It's simply not worth playing compared to other entires aside from the fact that this is the first one translated in years, and while the voice actors are alright the voice direction and English script are poor and kill the general mood of the game pretty badly. It wouldn't be an issue if there was an option to switch to the Japanese voices like every other localized entry in the series, but there isn't.
