When I was a a kid, I asked for the Sims on Xbox for my birthday. I didn't like it at all, and I told my mother.
To this day, I feel awful.
Back on Christmas 2003 my dad got me a GameBoy Advance player for GameCube and I told him to his face that I didn't want it. He got really upset and left the house for hours.
I'm sorry, dad.

When asking for it I never got something I didn't want, I was either just lucky or well informed about the games.
But if I just as a present I got something I didn't like I even then never threw a fit and demonstratively played with it just so they wouldn't feel bad.
The only time there was a bit of trouble was when I was home alone and knew where my parents hid stuff meant for my birthday/ christmas I took the game out of there and played it, putting it back again before they came home again, which worked well- except I forgot the plastic wrap the cart came in on the table, which is how they found out.
