First time player here, I just beat the Blood-Starved Beast.

All weapons are viable

Rifle Spear and Stake Driver are both garbage. Kirkhammer's not really a very good weapon either but it's passable if you like it. Ludwig's Holy Blade is a better Kirkhammer but it's the noob-attracting shitter weapon.

They're not that good unless you're doing a build for them or have lots of bloodtinge

Rifle spear is gimmicky and stake driver is hard to use, Kirkhammer gets really strong later on so stick with it, and most importantly get out of this thread before someone spoils the game for you

I've been using the top hat set with the Kirkhammer, so I'm only slightly le ebin classy gentleman at the moment

I used the Threaded Cane for the whole game, and on the side a little bit Tonitrus. There's a lot of very interesting weapons but I feel like I committed too heavily on this single one when the game has so many interesting builds you can go for.

I'm on my first playthrough too.

Started with the cane, but I picked up the Saw Spear because it fucking kills everything. Tonitrus for my off weapon, but I never see anyone mention it. I just like an electric mace.

Kirkhammer=Wheel > Everything else.

Before you get too used to the controls, you should go into the accessibility options for your PS4 (in the main settings menu) and change the button assignments so that circle is swapped with L1. Then you can sprint / roll around while turning the camera, and circle transforms your weapon / does a transform attack. You can just turn the swap on and off really quickly for whenever you're playing something other than BB

It isn't bad, you attack fast enough that you can basically stunlock most enemies while using your stamina. Low range though, so getting that first hit in can be a little tricky.

You have enough materials to upgrade a couple of weapons to +3 so you can try them out a bit.

If you're using a Kirkhammer, try to aim for 50 STR 25 SKL. Focus on strength and vitality, neglect endurance.

Stake Driver is also a weapon that scales with STR, so you could use both. Because Rifle Spear scales with SKL, wit wouldn't be a very good option. Even if you were a skill build it wouldn't be a very good option, because it's one of the weakest PVE weapons in the game by some margin (it and Kos parasite suck).

This reminds me a lot of my first playthrough of BB. I couldn't defeat Vicar Amelia no matter how hard I tried, and I eventually gave up. The next day, in the morning I beat her first try. It was a wild feeling.

I don't think anybody ever uses it but the Flamesprayer is pretty based, lads. A +3 can completely roast BSB in less than 10 seconds.

What are your stats at? Honestly endurance doesn't need to be levelled up at all if you can manage stamina properly, but it's not like it hurts. Levelling past like 20 is a huge a waste of echoes for it though. Vitality never hurts though, so it's not like you wasted them then.

You're doing way less damage then you should be if you haven't levelled your weapon though, no matter how much strength/skill you have. Upgrading the weapon is more important.

Endurance is arguably the least important stat in BB (outside of those not in your build I.E Arc on a Bloodtinge build etc)

Nearly all of my endgame (Even BL 150) builds have 20 or less Stamina. Levelling HP and STR is what you SHOULD be doing early game.

For BSB if you've explored Old Yharnam properly then you will have found the following

>Pungent Blood Cocktails
>Antidotes
>Beast Blood Pellets

Run into the boss room and then head to the right side where the pillars are - hurl a Blood Cocktail at the wall and use the Fire Paper + Beast Blood Pellet

Spam 2 or 3 Transform attacks (L1, builds Beast Gauge the fastest) into it's back then throw another Cocktail into the wall - repeat. The boss shouldn't even get a chance to move.

It's pretty much a rule in Souls that weapon upgrades are far more valuable than damage stats. Not only is the raw damage added much more valuable than the stat levels you're pumping in, but leveling the weapon also improves the scaling which retroactively makes damage stats more valuable.

For Bloodborne specifically, I would argue that pumping only vitality to 30 out of the gate would be the absolute best use of your levels. Stamina usage is really low in the game so you don't need endurance, and early game you aren't going to get much damage out of strength and skill at all. Health keeps you alive, is the biggest benefit you can have early on, and the game doesn't suffer from what happens in Souls since blood vials are a % rather than a flat amount.

You're overlevelled, but your build isn't really fucked up assuming you're using a weapon that scales with Strength. I wouldn't put any more points into Endurance, but it's up to you if you feel like you need it. A +3 weapon is exactly where you should be at Old Yharnam.

You should know that your stats hit a soft cap at 40 (50 for vitality) where you get severely diminishing returns after that and there's no point in levelling past that.

I tried out the boom hammer on a STR build for shits and giggles and got mixed results personally, not just because I had no arcane. It's really fun, but having to "trick" the weapon every time you wanted to add the fire buff was tough to work into the combos as opposed to just switching between states like with the other weapons.

That being said, I didn't spend much time with it. If you were to properly gem it out and have the stats to take advantage of the scaling I'm sure it could be really great for high burst damage.

One more bit of info. Even though the hunter's axe has terrible skill scaling, it will still gain more from getting to 25 skill than from going to 50 strength from 25 strength. It's like this for most weapons, and skill plays heavily into visceral damage so it's worth it anyway.

So once you reach 25 strength, start leveling skill to 25, then switch back to strength and push that to 50. Get vitality to 30, and that's pretty much where you'll end up at the end of the game. Then I'd push Vit from 30 to 50 and you're done.

The thing about Chalice Dungeons is that the bosses often feel like they were cut content thrown back in. They can have serious hitbox issues(Looking at you, Watchdogs of the Old Lords). Beast cutter is a pile of shit I remember some people shilling it at one of best STR weapons.

Yeah C scaling when fully uprgaded is truly amazing and the rally potential as well as damage on it are shit.

Just finished getting the platinum trophy last night. I don't care if the Holy Blade is the "noob weapon" It's so cool and I love it so much. All weapons are viable, but some are easier than others. LHB will make your first run a lot easier, as will the Saw Spear.

Finish the game, save, then test out weapons by upgrading (you'll have plenty of materials at that point) and then loading an old save and upgrading something else. You'll find your groove and what you really enjoy.

Well I'd argue with the idea that JRPGs encourage you to grind, it's always been a crutch for people who aren't good at the game. People get a little miffed at people who grind in action RPGs like Bloodborne because they feel it ruins the experience. Instead of facing the challenge head on and overcoming it you're just getting overpowered. It's a valid way to play, but it's a bit boring.

Well, thats the community i guess. I got into BB without a community and just went for it. Maybe if the game had bottlenecked me from doing so, but considering the harahness of the world it seems to encourage me to protect my blood and fortify myself with it often, and if that means a little grind, well it even just respawns everyone just as before.

I never said they were, that's not an excuse for Bloodborne's also following the trend. Dark Souls and Bloodborne only reach masterpiece status when you factor in the Artorias of the Abyss and The Old Hunters respectively. Bloodborne also has a variety problem, most of the bosses are either humanoid (Gascoigne, Logarius, Gehrman) or big monstrosities that flail around relentlessly (Cleric Beast, Blood Starved Beast, Amelia, Amygdala, Moon Presence).

There are a handful of good fights in the base game like Logarius and Ebrietas are two of my favorites but I don't understand how they thought stuff like Celestial Emissary, Witch of Hemwick or The One Reborn were good ideas for bosses. From a presentation standpoint they're all 10/10 but from a gameplay standpoint but they all suck which is what matters.

I love the game but the bosses aren't something to be defending in my opinion.

Don't let these people fool you, Kirkhammer is fantastic on a pure strength build and is only surpassed by dlc weapons in terms of str scaling. I beat the entire game for the first time using only the kirkhammer and loved it. It fucking destroyed the Crow of Cainhurst. Use it as your primary weapon unless you want to switch to one of the dlc weapons that has better scaling.

Rifle spear is garbage unless you have a build specifically dedicated to bloodtinge.

Stake driver is the highest risk/highest reward weapon in the game. With the right gems, if you transform it and hit with a fully charged R2 you will fucking destroy virtually ANYTHING. I'm talking instant visceral attacks on giant bosses. Even defiled Amygdala, who it takes a third of its health bar just to its head to get it into visceral range, can do it in two hits. It is also extremely unwieldy. You have to master timing in order to use it. I would recommend keeping it as a secondary weapon and using it when you feel like having some fun/want to "stake" everything on a single winning blow. Don't forget that a fully charged R2 also does fire damage so maybe carry some oil with you.

Make sure to hug her sides and back, she can't hit you as easily but the most important thing of that fight is to stay aggressive. As long as your weapon is upgraded enough so you should be able to offset her healing.

Abductors. They appear in the cathedral ward and beyond after you kill the Blood-Starved Beast. Run out the cell, to your right, up the first set of stairs, then wait near the top of the second set. An abductor will walk down them and into a room, away from you. Wait until he's a fair distance away, then run up the stairs he just came down, and you'll see a lantern at the foot of a giant spindly fucked up statue. I'd suggest GTFOing, because that's an area you'll hit later in the game (the Unseen Village) and the enemies there can fuck you up pretty easy.

Killing cleric beast unlocks the hunter chief emblem which unlocks the gate to cathedral ward, or killing BSB opens the door in oedon chapel that takes you to the healing church workshop/back end of cathedral ward.

If you like kirkhammer, save up for ludwigs holy blade. Very versitile moveset in big form, same silver sword moveset as kirk in small form.

You can unlock ludwigs now since you killed bsb. Go back to cathedral ward lamp. That locked door on the right is now up. Go all the way up the tower and open a chest for the silver sword badge which will allow you to buy new church themed weapons, like ludwigs holy blade.

one-hand mode is not good, basically only useful for parries/viscerals. two hand mode is really good, combos hard and fast, dodging attacks get extra strength, the special attack is a good mixer.

To elaborate more on this. In greatsword form, you have on commamd vertical attacks, crowd hitting side swipes, and a thrust with good reach. Ludwigs is a must have for any str build.

LHB seems to trivialize the whole game and then MLGS trivializes it further. Game was far easier than DaS1-3 when I went through it with that. Does Kirkhammer do the same thing? I never tried it since I made my choice between it and LHB and never looked back

Yes, to the Nightmare of Mensis but that's only from the top floor which you have to beat The One Reborn to access whom you need to go through Unseen Village to fight.

Utilizing its transform attacks in combos is both the most fun ive had and they are actually really useful moves when you put them to good use

All the Hunter fights are pretty poorly handled since they have both infinite health and stamina. Bloody Crow and the three in the chapel at Yahar'ghul are even bigger offenders.
