>Nioh ended up selling over a million copies in two weeks (And is still selling healthily according to Koei Tecmo's last financial report), making it Team Ninja's most successful game since Ninja Gaiden '04 and the highest selling KT game since the 2009 merger
Based on Nioh's massive success as far as AA Japanese games go, will other developers and publishers be willing to take risks on fantasy Sengoku action games again? It's been over a decade now since we had games like Onimusha, Genji, Otogi, Dororo etc. being released fairly regularly.

The setting is the worst thing about Nioh.

nah they are just gunna pump out for "souls like" games like that new anime souls game
its easy to take a game play formula and just fuck with the setting instead of just reusing the setting on different games

I hope so. Honestly, it wouldn't be shocking if Capcom decide to revive Onimusha in response to that (Though would anyone actually want modern Capcom touching it?), though Sony probably wouldn't bother with a new Genji, considering that Game Republic are long-gone and they're pretty close with KT for Nioh as it is.
Though it's interesting to note that Shu Yoshida was talking about Sony potentially bringing back their own first-party JRPGs in response to Nioh, Persona 5 and Nier Automata all selling really well on the PS4.Thanks to everyone here who bought them!

I just wish Capcum would start release the Sengoku Basara games in English. 3 whet my appetite so god damn much but then they just said "fuck you anon, we will leave you in a perpetual state of wanting as we release all these new sweet games in Jap only."

I was actually thinking about this a lot today. Im terrified enough about Re2make without them capcoming all over Onimusha

Japan agrees though which is why they almost only make medieval Europe inspired fantasy games.

Just be thankful that DoD was a commercial failure and we didn't have to deal with the series going further and further downhill right through the PS360 era.

But I liked DoD. It was a good game.
