What's the deal with the canon stuff? I've never played any of the yakuza games, picked up 0 and kiwami yesterday. Was gonna play through them chronologically.

They're basically remaking the whole series to carry over QOL improvements and make the storyline more consistent, they started with 0 as a prequel and then moved on to kiwami 1 and 2 and they have plans to re-release 3,4 and 5 on ps4 as well
This created a schism in the fanbase because some people are pissed that newer fans won't play the originals and are obsessing over what is "canon" because some of the later games have flashbacks of 1 and 2 in ps2 graphics, but then does it even matter if they update the later games to fix that etc etc etc
just buy kiwami and have fun

You'll probably get a bit annoyed with all the sidetracking and long periods it takes to do anything in Haruka and Saejima's parts. Kiryu and Shinada have the most open parts of the lot while Saejima and Haruka are a mix of railroading you and locking stuff off at times.

What did you have a problem with 4 though? The only thing I had problems with was Saejima being an asshole to everyone even if he was helping them so I didn't really like his character that much ( mean, I get that he's pissed but he's so mellow in 5 by comparison and is happy to help some people even if he's annoyed by them), and Tanimura got shafted with his own part's chapters being both short and not really expanding on his character that much. 5 is basically 4 when it comes to making you play new characters just with more side content.

Go to Cafe Alps with some lost health and buy the coffee. Each one counts for one or two levels of drunkenness lowered. Legendary Drinker of Ryukyu was only added in 3 so I don't know if Kiwami has it or not, but you can also check Poppo, M-Mart, Kotobuki Pharmacy, and Don Quijote to see if they carry it.

There is lock-on in 1. It just has a problem where it doesn't track enemies properly, so if you kill someone and hold R1 while trying to change direction to aim at another enemy or even a guy off to your side you'll just keep attacking forward or facing forward unless the guy straight up walks in front of you and even then it doesn't autocorrect itself properly to the guy.

I also played through all of 1 100% just fine last year and it still holds up. Yeah, it has its faults like few minigames, missables, lock-on is messed up, you can't really retaliate behind you effectively which only really got good at around 4 or 5 anyway, and it was kind of barebones with the Heat Actions available, but to completely write it off as unplayable or incredibly difficult to play is ridiculous.

But the core combat is literally the same as the rest of the series, the only thing that's broken is the lock-on system which works but you need to learn how it works not to flub hits compared to the games that came after it that redirect your attacks to the closest enemy or try to redirect you when you move while holding R1.

The problem we have right now is that people who played the base game here say patches improved the framerate and lessened the screen tearing on base PS4s however it's really tough to actually find anything that's not comparing the demo version in English or Japanese. We have Japanese sites that have people discussing the differences but until someone like Digital Foundry does a proper look into the full game we're left speculating. Supposedly (and at this point this could be outdated information due to people chiming in the other day) base PS4 is 900p, 30fps with drops, screen tearing, and longer load times for fights. Pro is 1080p, 30 fps pretty solid, no screen tearing, and instant load times for fights.

You can translate this if you want to get an idea of what people are talking about it but even their opinions seem to be about both the demo comparisons in that post and also about the actual game with their opinions interspersed. The main complaint is screen tearing for base PS4 users though.

Yeah, I only got it because I didn't have a PS4 yet and the framerate/resolution bonuses were enough to win over the extra $100 from me so I don't really regret it. But if you own a normal PS4 there's just no reason unless it only costs you like $50 to upgrade, the bonuses you gain from it aren't exactly substantial and it's usually just stabalizing the framerate which is something that appealed to me but may not for others.

If you still don't understand here's a very simple summary that should get you through most of it:
>Hands are generally made out of 14 tiles, four groups of triples and one double.
>Triples are made by either something like 1, 2, 3 of the same type of tile or three of the same number and type of tile.
>Doubles can be made with anything, however certain wind tiles won't count for points or count as a legit hand because there's some sort of rule involving it
>Wind tiles in general only give you points if they're of the table's wind (Center) or your wind (Somewhere near your name) so if you have any others just throw them away.
>Do not Pon, Chi, or Kan unless you know what you're doing even if it's to make a hand you need. It reveals your hand which makes the end total points way lower, makes it easier for your opponents to see what you have, etc.
>Pay attention to the discard pile, don't make a pair of bamboo 1, 2, 3 if you see two 2s are already thrown away.
>Generally at the start you should pitch wind tiles first and then special tiles like the white, dragon, and 中 ones unless you're positive you can make a double/triple out of them and no one has thrown out the tiles.
>As a beginner don't go for gimmick hands, it's very difficult.
>Press square at the start of each round to see if you can Riichi. This tells everyone you are one tile away from winning which isn't that bad for you (Never seemed to be a problem for me, I always call it) but it requires 1000 points as a deposit to do it, however if you win you gain more points for it.

Outside of that my luck always seems to be garbage so I just try any hand that'll win since I have no clue how points get tallied. So I started Yakuza 3. It was a while since I played 1 and 2 but the recap helped me keep things fresh.

I'm just happy, game is smooth and I got the feeling i'm not even scratching the surface. It's just knowing that It seems i'm gonna have good games to Play for a long time what makes me Happy, looking forward on going through this series
