I've never played a Silent Hill game, is the first one still worth playing? I want to start with it cause I love graphics from 3d games on the PS1 for some reason, and it seems extremely atmospheric from screenshots I've seen
Yeah play the first one it's pretty good I hope you don't mind tank controls

yes play it
You got your stations backwards.
First you play it, THEN you post about it.

I'd say, play SH2 first, its more of a stand alone experience
Then, if youre hooked, play SH1, then SH3 since they build on each other, then SH Shattered Memories which still expands the story and cry yourself to sleep since the franchise is dead

Fuck yes, play the first one. It's a great game. I would play them in release order for the sake of adapting to controls.
1 and 3 tie into each other directly, 2 and 4 have (very) loose references to each other although 4 is radically different from 1-3. I'm getting ahead of myself, though: play through 1, the atmosphere is extremely well done. Just keep away from the HD collection at all costs.

Yes. It's old, graphically and design wise. You need to understand the context of Team Silent trying to one-up Resident Evil. So if people complain that SH has clunky controls, understand that Team Silent was trying to make better camera and character controls than the RE games. And in many ways they succeeded.
It has Playstation graphics, but a strong art style.
I recommend PGXP as well.
