Usually just boost dashing or rainbow stepping can cancel anything as long as you got the boost. Some suits have evasive dashes like epyon or you can release a charged attack may cancel things, typically during melee combos. You just need to mess around and learn the system for the gundams you want to use. Each one is different and has their own quirks to learn.

You don't understand how this works do you?

If you have two suits, a 500 and a 300 and one of them has 650 HP while the other has 500 if you assume the lower costing suit dies second , They will end up operating at 1300 total effective health (two lives at 650 each), while the other will be left with 840 hp effectively (500 + 340 from Cost Over) before they can lose.


So you generally let the higher cost unit play front so they have the opportunity to die before you. If you want to bum rush then play a high cost unit or be really really really really REALLY fucking good with a low cost unit.

And don't give me "lol just dont die at all" stupidness since that will only happen if the person you are playing against is literally clueless.

Some advice for new players.

1. Switch to the D-pad unless you are using an arcade stick or are REALLY confident in your abilities with the DS4 analog stick.

2. Learn to do a basic beam rifle combo. That is
>Fire -> Dash -> Fire -> Dash -> Fire. This will usually lead to a knockdown

3. Don't shoot while the cursor is green. It's going to miss and you're just gonna waste ammo. The only exception is funnels for reasons specified later

4. Learn to not overheat. That's when people hit you.

5. Vice versa, learn to tell when people are overheating. It can be tricky but there are signs. The moment they are recovering is when you hit them

6. The red flashes around the screen during battle means you are being locked on by the opponent

7. press the D-pad twice in one direction to sidestep. Use sidestepping to dodge shots just as they are about to hit you.

8. Generally speaking on a team the one with the higher cost suit should die first to prevent serious overcost. Death order can be played around with though depending on skill and suits.

9. If you are unsure what to play, try for a high cost suit. You have room to experiment since you have high health and you are usually expected to die first anyway.

Kind of wish they had all the endless waltz suits, using the dumbed down versions of the suits is starting to give me a brain tumor. I don't care if they "appear" more Op than they should be or if they're put in the game later as 500 point units as long as they find a way in, same with the 00 units. That's fair enough but even then if they have no idea how to play in a high-spec Gundam, they'll have less of a chance in something like a Zaku, hell they may end up dying more than once causing a greater cost loss because they have less HP, weaker weapons and less maneuverability. As someone new to Gundam Versus, I appreciate being able to move quickly and hit hard as usually anyone in a grunt unit has more of an idea of what they're doing than someone like me using a 500 cost so I can focus on my opponent and not be as much of a hindrance

Demo is 1.0 of the Japanese version, so the meta is pre-what you'll be seeing on websites, the US release will be caught up on release but that won't make the meta any more relevant except for migrating players, since most NA players won't have the technical skill or the drive to get to the level at which the meta even matters.

The basic jist is, if you don't have any experience with a stick, and you're not into fighting games, you're better off sticking with a controller.
Even though the game is made with arcade play in mind, it's perfectly adaptable and easy to play with a controller, there are pros and cons for whichever you choose, but if you have a random stick laying around I would suggest trying it out as I have, it takes more getting used to but it's fun as hell.

Providence is such a bully 1 on 1. So much beam spam and you find a lot of Barbatos and melee suits. They just can't get to you. With ZZ's high mega cannon on support it's just plain nasty.

As for Exia, Exia is a solid starting suit. Not the best, but not terrible. I love Exia, stuns for days.

So I feel like I'm missing key mechanics of the game, how do you avoid attacks reliably? How do you get from place to place faster? Is there a block or counter mechanic or am I just fucked when getting melee'd?
