Now that the dust has settled how much did Iwata hold back Nintendo? How much is Miyamoto holding back Nintendo?

Reading that makes me think that he was saving video games.

Yeah thats what he said
Amiibos happened though

>Amiibos somehow restricted game content when Iwata was alive
Image being this deluded

Iwata was saving Nintendo and nobody wanted it. Now Kimishima is killing Nintendo and everybody loves it. They are becoming just another gaming company now, just like Sony and Microsoft. At least they still have some of their dignity and charm left, but I fear that by the time the Switch is dead, Nintendo will be nothing like it used to be. I really hope I'm wrong.

Yeah, the Wii U really helped Nintendo

It unironically did. It showed them where they went wrong in their branding and their overreliance on scaling AMD hardware. It also showed them that a tablet controller that added to the price of the console without being particularly portable was a losing proposition. The Switch's current success, at least on the financial front, was born and bred directly from the Wii U's commercial failure.

Kimishima isn't really straying from Iwata's path, at least, not very far. DLC is still not required in order to get the core content. Even Smash Bros gives you access to a decent amount of characters without having to pay extra. Nintendo still isn't going third, not sure about their policy in laying off staff, but I'm fairly certain Kimishima isn't do a culling of employees. Realism still isn't the main focus, and they're still doing their own thing.
Kimishima just seems like a more aggressive version of Iwata. He has the good business sense of that Yamauchi had in the '80s and early '90s. Pretty sure Iwata would have implemented paid online if he survived, and Switch seemed like in an inevitable evolution of the console line. There just isn't much daylight between them, aside from Kimishima more aggressively going after third parties and advertisement of the console.
