This game didn't get the fair chance it deserved. It was a true return to 90's game design, stripping away excess nonsense, and giving players a distilled, pure game.

Why do people hate this game again?
>>
>>389067047

/v/ hates all videogames equally.
>>
>>389067047
Game was fun. I finished it yesterday. What did people think about the ending?
>>
>>389067218
Good ending. I think it was cool how, throughout the game, Alex was trying to get Morgan to sympathize with the Typon, and, by doing so, he made the Typhon sympathize with the humans.
>>
>>389067218
A lot of people seem to hate it and think it invalidates the whole experience for some reason
>>
>>389067218
I normally hate the whole, 'it's just a dream' thing personally but everything else was fine.
>>
>>389067047
No clue, its a good game.
Only problem I have are the bullet sponges from time to time.
>>
>>389067047
I don't think making monsters so strong at the start that you need half your valuable ammunition to kill is good design, it's just dumb, make believe """""survival"""""
>>
This is going to be one of those games that /v/ will love to jerk off years after the memories of launch have faded, like Dragons Dogma or Dishonored.
>>
>>389067047
I liked it, wish there was more enemy variety but it was worth the money in my opinion.
>>
>>389067687
I was jerking off this game the moment it was announced and revealed to be a System Shock successor with writing done by Chris Avellone, does that I mean I get to join the cool kids club?
>>
>>389067496
Technically, everything on the station did happen. We were just witnessing an echo of that, to see how a Typhon would react in that same situation. I think it was a good ending, because, even though it was technically a simulation, it made an actual difference in the real world.
>>
>>389067956
Chris Avellone is actually writing for System Shock 3, too. And the SS1 remake (even though most of the lines are already written).
>>
>>389067517
You're just bad.
>>
>>389068135
I don't have my hopes up for those two, SS3 was announced almost 2 years ago and is still not even in pre-production (i.e. it's vaporware at this point), and the remake is being developed for consoles with a kickstarter budget
>>
>>389067047
Had the misfortune of being named Prey. Bethesda really should've let Arkane go with their original name for the project, Typhon.

Really great game, enjoyed it a lot. One thing that really took me by surprise was how good the sound design and OST was, it was crucial to the whole atmosphere. First no gravity flight was amazing.
>>
>>389067517
Were you playing on the hardest difficulty or something?
>>
>>389069467
Sound design is great, but it has so many bugs and issues with it. Walking past a trash can, even at a distance, causes the opening noise to blare REALLY loud. Voice audio is mixed badly, as well. It's way too loud.
Thankfully, the only bugs I've encountered so far relate to audio, and not the actual game systems.
>>
>>389067956
Same here, I've been an Arkane dicksucker since Arx Fatalis. Was really excited when they showed the trailer for this.
>>
>>389067218
I love it because it keeps me talking about the game.
Kind of sad that we probably won't get any DLC or sequel.
>>
>>389067047
Enemy design is so boring
>>
Please don't let the immersive sim genre die.
I want another game like Prey.

The design of Talos was great.
>>
>>389067517
I disagree, the whole game should have been like that instead of turning into a pseudo shooter.
The moment I got too strong is when I stopped having fun.
>>
>>389069750
Isn't the budget for DLCs already given in advance? It might still happen, the Dishonored 2 one was announced like 8 months after release.
>>
>>389069842
>Mankind Divided bombed
>Dishonored 2 bombed
>Prey bombed
>Death of the Outsider will inevitably bomb

What a shame, it was a good genre, what a rotten way to die

>>

People these days don't know good shit. Unless you mention "this game is like Dark Souls", they will expect everything to be handed to them and straightforward.

Mankind Divided was not good enough.
Dishonored 2 ran like shit on PC.
>>

at launch, it runs fine now though. Still runs like shit on consoles.
>>
>>389070457
Really? I have it on the PS4 and it ran fine from day one.
>>
>>389070457
Well, I only have 2500k and 750 Ti. Will probably run like shit on mine.

How is the quality of the game itself?
>>
>>389069467
>Had the misfortune of being named Prey.

It really baffles me when contrarians act as if the original Prey was some kind of beloved classic that could be done wrong.
>>
>>389070457
It still runs horribly on PC. Not as much as when it launched, but still really bad.
>>
>>389067047
shit you just reminded me that I need to finish this. i really liked it but something else came out that made me forget about it.
>>
>>389070565
It's great, amazing level design and they improved the gameplay. More non-lethal options this time.

You can try the demo on steam though if you don't know if it will run on your PC. It's the first 3 missions.

>>389070545
I bought it on launch for PS4, I found it to be unplayable. Unstable 30fps with fluctuating frametimes and a very narrow field of view. Not sure how people can play a game like this at 30fps, you're missing out on the real potential of the action.

>>389070565
I played it with a GTX 1070, was able to more or less max it at 2560x1440 with a mostly locked 60fps.
>>
>>389070790
you're in for a treat when you get to the clockwork mansion then.
>>
>>389070790
In my opinion Arkane are honestly the best in the business right now when it comes to level design. Their games have flaws, mainly when it comes to story/writing, but the level design is always top notch.

I'm still impressed by how well made the Talos I station was.
>>
>>389067047
I didn't expect much at all going into it. I really liked how I could "break" the game when trying to get into places. Fun times. Wish the game had more satisfying weapons too.
>>
>>389067047

Dunno, I was really turned off by the insanely uncreative enemy designs. Is the game a worthy System Shock 2-like game otherwise?
>>
>>389067047
>Why do people hate this game again?

A lot of people are still stuck at their "Fuck them it's not Prey 2" phase.

Some of them don't know the difference between a publisher and a developer so they are punishing Arkane by not buying the game thinking it's Bethesda.

Bethesda did a terrible job marketing the game and a lot of people still don't understand what genre this is and are not interested in what they believe is a horror fps.

Also I guess there are people with terrible tastes that just find Immersive Sims boring.

Yeah I'm used to 30fps now so it doesn't bother me, luckily it was stable 30fps in my case. Playing it on PC is not an option since I only have a shitty laptop from 5 years ago that can barely run games from 2012.
>>
>>389070039
>>Mankind Divided bombed
The publisher shit the bed so hard with that.

It was plainly clear that the dev was trying to cope with unreasonable demands for DLC and that awful Breach Mode garbage with its awful microtransaction antics.
>>
>>389071293
>Yeah I'm used to 30fps now so it doesn't bother me, luckily it was stable 30fps in my case.
I swear, I am not even a huge framerate elitist. I enjoyed Horizon, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, BOTW, and tons of other games at 30fps. Dishonored 2 though was one that I instantly couldn't enjoy.

Maybe they improved it with a later patch but after the first 3 or 4 patches I was still not satisfied and deleted it from my PS4 hard drive. Ended up picking up the PC version after it was patched on the Steam summer sale.
>>
>>389071016
One thing I didn't like though was how previsible the ending was to me. As soon as I saw the book/email mentioning "what if we could give Typhons human emotions", I saw the ending coming from a mile away.
>>
>>389067047
boring and too easy like dishonored
>>
>>389071538
The game also had constant "flashbacks" and other shit hinting at the truth.
>>
>>389071423
Seems like a lot of the time it's the publishers that fuck over the potential success of these games.

>Bethesda forcing the Prey name on Arkane
>Square Enix forcing microtransaction bullshit on Eidos

At least IO Interactive is finally free.
>>
>>389071532
>I swear, I am not even a huge framerate elitist. I enjoyed Horizon, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, BOTW, and tons of other games at 30fps. Dishonored 2 though was one that I instantly couldn't enjoy.

60FPS is only a requirement for faster paced games, because that's when it becomes more noticable.
>>

>Seems like a lot of the time it's the publishers that fuck over the potential success of these games.

That's because publishers are interested in making money, not enjoyable games.
They have their analysts look at data and come up with dumb requirements and shit for the devs.

This is why if you plan on getting into game development and want a higher management position (like a director or something) you NEED to study up on this shit so you can turn the data against them or tell them with your own data why their approach won't work.
>>
>>389071062
>Some of them don't know the difference between a publisher and a developer so they are punishing Arkane by not buying the game thinking it's Bethesda.

>Arkane already paid for development cost
>Bethesda's the one that owns the IP and told Arkane to use it
>People don't want to buy Bethesda's IP
?
>>
>>389071819
It's not about the genre, it's about it being bearable.
>>
>>389071819
>60FPS is only a requirement for faster paced games, because that's when it becomes more noticable.
and Dishonored is pretty fast paced unless you do exclusively stealth. The speed at which Corvo moves with all the upgrades in Dishonored 2 makes it hard to imagine playing it 30fps. To me it'd be like playing DOOM (2016) at 30fps.
>>
>>389067047

Because people found it hard to navigate through and they didn't adapt, I've seen my friend and countless streamers try the same failed tactics on the same enemies, they also wouldn't time their shots thus wasting a shit ton of ammo.

this is what gamers have become i blame those stupid one man army video games nowadays
>>
>>389072130
There a thing I don't understand.
Those these guys even look at internet forums? Most of these "gaffes" could be avoided by simply looking up what people think of their games and the industry. Shit, it's almost as if the higher ups never play games, even if casually.
>>
>>389072182
>It's not about the genre, it's about it being bearable.

Not following you. Playing chess in 30fps or 60fps isn't really that noticable.
Playing something like Titanfall 2 at 30fps would be really bad (which is why the devs made the game run at 60 fps on console).
>>
>>389072524
To me, any game, no matter the genre feels sluggish at 30 fps.
>>
>>389072445
>Those these guys even look at internet forums?

Who? The analysts? Mosts analysts don't even play or know anything about games.
They just look at numbers and trends. They try and apply what works in say the movie industry with videogames, which frankly doesn't translate well.
>>
>>389070605
The original hada Cherokee as the MC, crazy gravity and physics shenanigans, spirit world and form and some really nice weapons that sometimes looked really bizarre.
>>
>>389072409
Yeah I noticed this too. 2 of my friends got the game and while they said they enjoyed the whole atmosphere on the station, they found it too hard. They were playing it on normal difficulty too.

It wasn't so much that people loved the original game, as much as that the sequel looked to be very good. It was going to be a cyberpunk style bounty hunting sim and had some great features and ways to solve problems. This is why people were pissed it was named Prey. Game got cancelled as Zenimax/Bethesda wanted to take over the company and the company refused.

If you actually think Prey is above 7/10 then I actually feel sorry for you because it must be difficult being that dumb. And no this isn't opinion,it's objective. One day I'll make an 1 hour long video on YouTube where I release all the hard truths about this game because I don't even know where to start when people ask me about this game. I'd end up spending the night typing out endless paragraphs that would go to waste since all the 15 year olds here have no attention span. I've done it before. Well thought out posts that maybe get one or two replies. Why? Because I'm right and people would rather call me autistic and ignore my post than actually present an argument

Embarrassing
>>
>>389074753
The footage we saw of the sequel looked seriously awful. It was a clunky, scripted cover-based shooter set in a game with a cool artstyle. It would have been lame and bad like the original.

/v/ let idiots without taste hype up Prey 2, and so we have a history revised by the least conscious elements of this forum which in turn give Prey (2017) a bad deal.

>>
>>389075210
I disagree. I'll admit, I'm sure some of the elements were scripted, but I think Prey 2 would have scratched a bounty hunting itch for me and I really liked the artstyle enough to want to explore the city more. Taking human shields is a fun and underused mechanic.

But if you watched the game, the moment-to-moment gameplay was exactly as described. It would have been a game with cool ideas, like the original, but not very remarkable. Human Head were incompetent anyway.
>>
>tfw you spend half the game hiding from the Nightmare thinking he'll wreck your shit, only to get caught off-guard and slap his shit with combat focus + shotgun

The Nightmare is a lil' bitch if you've got at least 7-10 shotgun shells to spare.
>>
>>389067464
Yes, because it invalidates the whole experience.

>>389067047
I really enjoyed it all the way to but not including the ending. I thought the gameplay was great and tickled by system/bioshock fancy. Being able to move all around the station was really nice and I thought that that was handled better than Bioshock since I never really wanted or needed to go back to many places while playing Bioshock. The zero-g stuff was fun too as well as the powers.

I didn't really get that many alium powers since I thought it would get me the bad ending. Should I go back and play through with them?
>>
>>389067047
Why the fuck does Arkane shill so hard? And don't even give me the "uuuuh you only hate when discuss like videogame why you hate fun?" shit, conveniently ignoring the details in these Arkane threads. I don't think BoTW was shilled. I don't even think Overwatch was shilled.
But god damn is it obvious when Arkane shills.

When people discuss videogames, they discuss videogames. They don't aggressively and hamfistedly push the game on you, sucking the developers dick, unable to admit a single flaw with the game.
>>
>>389075549
