No he's not. Tabata is cancer. FF XV is LITERALLY unfinished. It's not even up for debate either. It's unfinished. There was no direction in FF XV. Tabata basically said lets take a bunch of ideas and throw them at the wall to see which one sticks and majority of those ideas didn't work at all.

At least with Nomura directing XV we kinda saw what he was going for. He did have a clear vision he wanted to follow and wasn't going to let anybody ruin his vision.

XV is not exactly 100% Tabatas game, the whole world and 90% of the characters and the way weapon and shit will work was already tehre before he became direcotr. His own games like 3rdB or T0 are really nothing special at all.
Not to mention XV has a lot of problems itself. Characters lack exposition, the big world serves almost no purpose because they didn't know how to fill it with content except for those 2-3 dungeons. They took too much fan feedback isntead of thinking for themselfs and then there's the movie and anime and spinoff shit and the DLC episodes and there'll be a second season pass too judging by the last interview and most of the survey stuff they teased will probably never end up being in the game.
Blame Square for not letting people like Ito direct mainline games, instead they give a spin off to a handheld director and turn that into a mainline frankenstein game.
If Tabata is the best thing then why didn't he direct amazing games in the past or why isn't he working on 7R or other big stuff now.

He and his team are stuck with XV forever and it's partly their fault with thier boner for feedback and polygon count and visual shit over consistent artsyle and endgame content

I actually really like XV despite it's flaws, but remaking XIV and making constant XIII sequels seriously gimped V-XIII's development. I think Nomura's a hack who got lucky a few times (look at how stupid KH has become), but the blame isn't all on him. Still, his clothing deal is one of two big reasons XV has so many flaws because it was rushed as shit, the other being the Luminous Engine is gorgeous but shit to program for.

If Ito directed another game I would maybe care about Final Fantasy game again. Toriyama and Tabata are both Trash (Tabata is only slightly better) and Nomura hasn't made any game outside of Kingdom Hearts yet so it's hard to tell if he would be good.

I'm a sucker for art styles like that. Late 90s - mid 2000s in general. Eva, Monster, Hajime No Ippo, etc. Basically the last era of hand drawn. Digital looks overly vibrant no matter what you do. Doesn't fit most serious series'

Maybe it's just because he doesn't work on more realistic games anymore, at least in terms of cahracter designs.
His art overall has improved though, he's just stuck with the wrong games

Not that guy, but it's hard to say.
He can even emulate some Nintendo artstyles and shit and he hasn't done more realistic proportioned designs lately.
Even has Miku looks different from anything else he's done.
