Microsoft and Nintendo can disable their consoles as well if they want to, the last 2 generations of console have had this functionality.

Did they actually remove things from people's libraries? I know they stopped selling some games on the store, but I thought you could still download them.

No, I own Alan Wake and while it's not for sale anymore I can still install it.

I wonder if anyone bought Too Human on Xbox 360 digitally and lost the ability to play it when Epic won the lawsuit and got the game taken down from Xbox.
>>
>>389032746
Don't try to deflect the blame here, you can apply that logic to anything, pretty much every company has the access to terminate your service to anything at will if they feel like it, but they won't unless they feel they have a legitimate reason. When has anyone here in this thread just got their lights cut out, their steam account games blocked from being played or anything like that without majorly trying to do something to scam the company first?

>>389032918
I don't think so, that warning is for digital games, someone brought a very valid point that it must be someone else's account who bought and installed those games on the PS4. But he's trying to deflect the blame to "wow don't you see the true evil here, Sony can just stop me from playing the games at will, how is this allowed!"

He didn't if that message popped up for him, it will never pop up on a disc based game and it will only pop up on a downloaded title if you don't have your PS4 activated as your primary system. Like the PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, when you activate the system as your "primary" digital games do not need an internet connection to be played.

He's getting an error for a very specific thing and telling us very little of the story, instead shifiting the blame to the company for "having too much power". Come on, OP. If you really think Sony is in the wrong here, give us the full story.

no, it's the main reason I don't have any next-gen console thus far, and I have a gut feeling that I'd sell them after playing the handful of games that I'd be interested in playing because there's no way I intend to be tied down to pay for online.

>Buying consoles for playing video games

Let's be honest, you buy a console if you are too retarded to do research and build an actual computer. At least when it comes to video games. It's like watching movies on your cellphone "because it's simpler and faster" instead of bothering to have a proper setup.

Look, I don't wanna sound too "PC Master Race", but looking at this entire generation of consoles, it's very hard to justify the purchase of any of em. I have a PS4 because I wanted a blu-ray player and media center device on my TV, also because I wanted to try out Persona 5, but notice how the video game aspect of it was almost irrelevant.

PC has a shitload of games, PC has a shitload of ways to customize or mod those games, it has many other uses outside of video games. Seriously, can someone on this thread who bought a console instead of a PC simply tell me, why? Is there any other reason than "you were too lazy to do better?"
>>
Wtf i love sony now
>>
>>389031504
Make sure your PS4 is activated as "your primary PS4" in the options, if you do it allows you to play store bought games and DLC offline. Otherwise you have to be always online for it to work.
>>
>>389033702
$5 or 10
It's $60. That's a whole extra AAA-game you could be getting per year instead of giving a tip on your internet bill.

Not that anon, but yea. It just depends on your personal preferences anyway. I mean changing username should be basic feature, but I don't have any need for that. I've ps3 and bunch of other consoles so I don't need backwards compatibility. But I can understand why people would want that.

for the price of ps+. I'm not paying for ps+, so it doesn't matter to me. some dollar price increase is less of a problem than having to pay for that shit in the first place if you want to play online.

Welcome to the modern era you fucking retard. Any device connected to the internet using a service can have your shit disabled remotely.

Even if you use a disc, they can ban you at a console/hardware level and prevent you from doing anything on that device anymore.

You have never ""owned"" the shit you buy, but the internet makes it easier to take it from you.

None of the companies do backwards compatibility all that well. The reality is if you
wanna play anything up to PS2 era, it's very easy to emulate, ESPECIALLY Nintendo.

If you make the PS4 compatible with PS3 games and some PS2 games for download or whatever, what happens when the PS5 rolls around? Or PS6? I feel like backwards compatibility will be all over the place for different systems from different systems in every generation, but if you just emulate that shit, you can have one central system that you
can get the games from every generation, from every company.

>>
>>389034543
>I'm saying it's not really worth it for the price you pay when compared to a PC
I don't agree, obviously I prefer playing multiplatforms on PC as I have a 6700K and 1080Ti but the price I paid for my custom desktop was more than all 3 current-gen consoles combined.
>>
>>389034704
Sony offering a pathetically weak system barely more powerful than the PS3 to begin with.
With most of its games having been developed for the PS3 or even outright being PS3 games. Making the upgrade completely unnecessary to begin with outside of Sony's desire for even more money.
While offering a worse service and suddenly charging annual fees for core hardware features in spite of the consumers already having paid for said hardware.

The PS4 is a fucking shitshow m8. Not even that guy.
>>
>>389035204
The price up front is always higher, but when it comes to a cost over time, especially considering cheaper game prices on PC, it always ends up being more worth it. Building a hell of a PC is super expensive, upgrading your video card every few years is not.

>>389035191
1 Game. That's the key thing here. If I had to list all the games I want to play on PS4 it wouldn't go for a few lines. Bloodborne is another cool one. And I know a console is "worth it to some people", but I'm really curious as to why. You just gave an interesting reason, playing multiplayer games on the couch with your wife. I agree entirely, but then again, I'd be limited to playing PS4 games if I did that. So I just hooked an HDMI cable from my PC to my TV as well. Now I can enjoy a shitload more games on couch. And with a controller too, you get to choose your favorite one as well.

It's much higher, and PC game sales are not nearly as good as they used to be. You also assume that every console game stays $60 for ever, which is not true at all. Physical games depreciate more than digital copies generally and I've purchased many console releases this gen for less than $20.
>Building a hell of a PC is super expensive, upgrading your video card every few years is not.
That's literally the only reason to game on the PC, to have the best experience possible. If you're going to compromise on performance you're no better than a consolefag.
>1 Game. That's the key thing here. If I had to list all the games I want to play on PS4 it wouldn't go for a few line
That's because you're a faggot afraid to try new games and leave your comfort zone. There are tons of good games on the PS4 and the system is cheap as shit now. I buy everything because I love video games too much to get hung up over a few hundred bucks or petty platform loyalty.

PS3 has TWO FUCKING HUNDRED FIFTY SIX megabytes of ram. Saying that PS4 is 'barely more powerful' is fucking dumb
>>
>>389035724
It did fucking terribly in Asian territories. With the PS3 counterparts outselling the PS4 versions for quite some time at first.

In the western world though? People saw Microsoft shitting themselves, and were thus completely blinded at how Sony had nothing good to show either. And then it became the "cool" thing to have in the living room for casuals and normalfags. And for some reason that worked. People even sold their PS3s to purchase PS4s in spite of the PS4 not being backwards compatible and having fucking nothing to show for at the time.
They even started paying for online play.
>>
>>389035204

>>
>>389035963
>PS3 has TWO FUCKING HUNDRED FIFTY SIX megabytes of ram. Saying that PS4 is 'barely more powerful' is fucking dumb
Yeah, the difference honestly isn't close at all. Games on both usually run at twice the framerate and twice the resolution on PS4, and then current-gen exclusive games like Horizon are so far beyond what the PS3 ever could have done.

Yakuza 0 / Kiwami for example runs at 1024x768 at 30fps on PS3, while on PS4 it's 1920x1080 at 60fps. MGSV is the same way, sub-720p and below 30fps on PS3 while 1080p and 60fps on PS4.

bullshit, sure it'll be better than the Xbox One X and any console for probably the next 5 years, but there's no way it'll be better than consoles for 15 years. 15 years is a really long fucking time when it comes to CPU/GPU development.

That said, in 15 years I'll have a whole new computer anyway.

I have had my PC for 7 years and it still plays new games. It wasn't high end when I bought it and I only paid 1k.

How did the Switch beat the PS4?
>>
I have only had something like this happen to maybe 2 out of the infinite things I stream to my ps4 media server from my torrent app. All it will do is say "this is not an official file and will be muted".
I'll just pull up a different fIle type like mkv or somthing and it'll stream fine.

So, a PC from 2010? Not a high end one at that?
What is it then, GTX460 and first-generation i5 or core 2 quad?
That won't even reach 'console quality' in new games

>I have had my PC for 7 years and it still plays new games.
And if it were 15 years old you would be running at best a Radeon 9700 Pro. That card wasn't even better than the GPU in the PS3 and 360.

Yep, I love gaming on a PC and generally prefer it to consoles, which is why I spent $700 on a video card. It's still stupid though to pretend that a computer that old and mid-range is capable of playing new shit at any respectable level.

Y'know XBox doesn't have this problem. You can even just sign on to someone else's XBox and download and play any games you own on your account.

Steam does this too if you go offline and online again, i had it happen to me once around 2013 or so, it kicked me out because it thought i was using a software i didnt own.

Also this has never happen to me on the PS4, this usually happens when you are using a secondary account and someone else starts playing it.

Actually that is similar to how Steam familiy share works too.

Console quality it's medium, 540p and 30fps so yeah it does that.

Consoles don't jump like they used to. Ps4 and xbox one were trash when they released.

>>389036998
that's exactly what gamesharing is on PS4
it's just that OP bought a used console with someone's account and games still on it, and that person deactivated the console later on, rendering OP unable to play those games

Consoles have mobile hardware and they are the standard for game development so I don't see why it is so hard to believe.
>>
>>389033704
This post is dumb on so many levels. I'll have you know son that once you are older and played a ton of games, you start to only care about the new stuff. And buying a console is much, much cheaper than upgrading a PC. It's not like the PC gets any worthwhile exclusives anyway. Just look up the Steam charts: the most played game is an affront to gaming itself!

And don't give me that spiel about computers being able to do more. Anything a computer can do, so can my phone. And my phone does in my pocket.

There's just no point in having a PC anymore.
>>
>>389037163
>Console quality it's medium, 540p and 30fps so yeah it does that.
the lowest resolution game on the PS4 is 720p and it runs at 60fps. The vast majority of PS4 games are 1080p running at 30fps.

540p 30fps is below Switch quality, jesus christ

Wow, a guy who says "there's no point in having a PC anymore" is saying my post is dumb on so many levels, that's impressive.

Do you really think there is nothing a computer can do a tiny bit better than your fucking phone? And becoming older means you suddenly only care about "new games"? Because that sounds like being an impulsive child to me, buying a console and the latest $60 releases as opposed to having a decent library of older good stuff on an actual computer. Who the fuck even cares about the Steam Charts? Jesus christ everything about your post makes me think you are the exact kind of retard I'm criticizing, the guy too lazy to put any thought into anything, so he just buys the latest CoD on PS4 and the latest iPhone and thinks that's all he needs.

Can your phone video edit properly? Is your phone a good thing for processing any form of document? From presentations to writing documents, working on Excel, doing your taxes, in fact, is there literally anything your phone does that isn't a dumbed down version of something a computer has done better for about a decade?

I'll have YOU know, "son" that when you get older, you'll stop caring about what's "most popular" and the "new stuff" and spend money on things you enjoy. And when you get wiser, you'll know to do your own research and upgrade things properly.

As for you, are you for real either? There are more cheap and good Steam games that you can possibly play in your lifetime, right now. I don't get the whole "much much higher cost for computers". There's a huge up front investment, but after you get one your computer will last you for years if you built it well at max quality, if you just care about "medium" quality like on a console and just want to run shit, you will have that shit for years. Sure, $1400 sounds like a lot of money, but when you realize you will be getting at the very least 5 years worth of max quality for that price, it suddenly sounds like nothing. And after that, it's not like you have to scrap your computer and toss it.

I'm definitely open to new games, but let's be real here, steam has an almost endless catalog of games by itself, games from every generation. While every console will probably have not even 10 amazing console exclusives. The key here is that most of these great games are already on PC. If you really wanna go down this route, fine.

http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/release-date/available/ps4/metascore

For every one of these PS4 exclusive games, there are like 5 also on the PS4 I can play on my PC much better. You say you "buy everything because you love video games". I do too, I'm absolutely not platform loyal, but at the end of the day I'll always get the most value out of it by picking it up on Steam. In fact I have played most of the top PS4 games listed here already. And for the few I haven't, I will purchase them.

If you really wanna keep going I can go into length about how my PC I bought in 2009 lasted me almost into 2017 with most of it's components except switching out the graphics card and a minor RAM update. People who complain about upgrading too often are also idiots who cheap out on their PC and then the entire thing is outdated too soon.
>>
>>389032052
You're asking why does PS4, a console that came out three years ago, has the same functionality as steam, a platform that came out 14 years ago?

Are you retarded?
>>
>>389035924
>PC game sales are not nearly as good as they used to be

Which is why sites like G2A exist now and allow me to get AAA 60 burgerflap titles for like 27 dollars and like 30 dollar titles for 7 dollars and so on
>>
>>389039056
The Xbox One X is launching after 4 years of the PS4 having better hardware than the Xbox One.
>As for you, are you for real either?
Yes, I am for real. New games don't get the kind of discounts on Steam now that they did 5 years ago.
>Sure, $1400 sounds like a lot of money, but when you realize you will be getting at the very least 5 years worth of max quality for that price
The kind of person that spends $1400 on a computer isn't going to be happy playing on low or medium settings in 5 years. (myself included)

I'm not even really complaining about the cost of PC gaming, I went with a 6700K, 1080Ti, and 1TB SSD because I wanted a good experience and was willing to pay it. I just think the price argument is wildly inaccurate unless you're compromising your experience the way you describe. You should never have to play games at 30fps on a PC. On a console it's the bargain we accept to play games not available anywhere else.

Who wins, Steam or PS4?

Steam although PSN sales are actually decent now compared to last gen. I buy most console games on Amazon though as I prefer physical releases.

I've seen this with titles I've got from PSN. Arc the Lad and Rogue Galaxy. It pops up every now and then but it has never done anything or stopped my games? I assumed it was just a flicker of my internet cutting out. I don't know if they actually stop games, but it never happened to me. Unless it actually does stop one for you, I wouldn't worry.
