I just finished this game and I enjoyed it. Did you enjoy it /v/?
Really immersive level design and world building through neat details, it does a great job at making you feel like you're exploring an actual spooky ship instead of just vidya corridors. Destroying eggs with the shotgun feels so satisfying.

That place gives me the creeps.
Although that last level was Xen-level of shit and the "nah" ending is ridiculous.
"nah" was great, shut up

It's an awesome game, makes me feel like an old man 'yeah, sonny... they just don't make games like they used to'.

What was so bad about the Rickenbacker?
>>389007486
>the expected me to swim into the nuclear shit to progress
>a radioactive underwater maze
>don't realize the final boss spawns infinite enemies
>have massive stockpile of ammo by this point for assault rifle
>murder a million of the brute things until I'm out of ammo
>try murdering all the brains
took me forever to discover what you had to do
The body of the many was not my favorite level, but prefontaine's logs were some of the best in the game

>makes me feel like an old man 'yeah, sonny... they just don't make games like they used to'.
Sad!
I don't understand why people hates the Rickenbacker.
>No map (well, it had a map but it was useless)
>Lots of vertical movement
>When you flip gravity
It was a nice change of pace.
I agree about the body of the Many being awful.

It's just a glorified fetch quest and it lacks any of the interesting interconnectivity that the other levels had, nothing is worse than when you get to the elevator at the end only to realize you forgot that one egg and then have to backtrack all the way back through the same incredibly linear path to go find it.
It's not awful by any means but it's where the quality starts to drop in my opinion, would've been better with some interesting shortcuts to open up for every X amount of eggs you destroyed or something to make going from end to the other more streamlined.

Congrats op
Shodan has a vigina now, just sayin
If I liked Deus Ex, will I like this? What are the essential mods, as well as any that make the environment textures a bit better?
I would probably enjoy it coop, but I was playing solo so didnt finish it. The enemies turn into major bullet sponges and the shooting is really pretty shit.
>>389011920
most likely, its a horror game first and foremost and stealth isn't really an option, no mods are essential and I would recommend a pure vanilla run but there is SHTUP for a better vanilla style look
>>389011920
What, said:
>>389012064
Mostly texture upgrades. I like to upgrade the models of eggs, etc. Everything but the enemy models because the vanilla midwives are the most terrifying.
Check the official forums for every mod you need.

I think that's the correct one, can't be fucked to be 100% sure right now.

>removes none of the gore and other horrible shit
why would anyone do this?
>>389007517
But Prey came out recently

The only worthwhile mods getting besides total conversions like System Shock Infinite (never played it), are texture and model upgrades. As far as I know.
I guess some christian fag wanted a profanity free version.
Oh, hello. Allow me to assist you
System shock is carried almost totally by the voice acting in the logs. The script and voices are seared into my brain and I can't explain exactly why it's so perfect

The body of the many is basically a creature more driven by instinct and feeling, a feeling of belonging.
While Shodan is pure cold logic, but also psychopathic with a god complex.
And you're Malcolm in the middle. A mix of both.
Great atmosphere and immersive gameplay, with good character building via logs. With a kind of weak ending which ends up campy.

This fucking log man, it's haunting.

Funny because the voice acting is the weakest part of the game. S.H.O.D.A.N. and Lansing are the only ones with good VA the rest range from mediocre to shit like this https://youtu.be/QZabfMbYWaw

SS1 has meh VO but just having voices was kinda impressive for that era, but the design was incredible. The world really feels like a "real" place at times.
...and other times you're a cyborg on rocket skates with a rear mirror in his vision and that's ok.

>>389007360
Weird sequel. It's not as good as the first game and it went in a completely different direction as far as both gameplay and tone are concerned, but it's still a fantastic game.

I absolutely love the voices in System Shock 1. They sound like regular people, the kind of regular people who work on a space station who might be recording a voice memo. It doesn't come off as bad voice acting to me, it comes off as incredibly believable and it's one of the reasons it's my favorite game of all time. The voice acting in SS2 is alright but it just sounds like voice actors doing their job.

what did he mean by this?

one of the few times, the german dub is actually on par, if not better than the original english one:

It's a shame the game was rushed in in its last few months of development. I've read the game was supposed to have multiple endings, something which makes perfect sense given LG staff's design philosophy revolving around player choice and agency, and certain voice prompts that beckon you join them from both SHODAN and The Many. Likely explains the drop off in level design quality Rickenbacker and onward, too.

Well, she technically would, right? After the end of SS2, she made a copy of herself onto the escape pod, which is why she appears in a physical form at the very end.
So the digital vagina dream is real.
god I hope SS3 is good
SS1 is better
