Eh, Tyranny was ok. New Vegas was great, Pillars of Eternity was rough at start but got good after the expansion pack. Haven't played their other games, but really I feel like their games are at least better than Troika's because they don't fucking hit god-awful lows like every Troika game does when they ran out of money, the poor bastards.

I've a feeling they're good but incredibly overrated. I like some of their games, but they also always fail to deliver.

Half their games are decent the other half are trash. They make bioware and bethesda look like amateurs

No it wasn't, the problem in PoE was the combat and story. The writing was generally fine.
In Tyranny it dropped down into garbage territory. The fucking 2 generals alone acting like fucking children was bad enough, but there's far worse shit in that game.

Obsidian's first two original IPs were a Mass Effect styled game and a Baldur's Gate styled game, and inXile has been the one doing callbacks to the original Fallout games and Planescape: Torment despite Avellone and Tim Cain being at Obsidian

Lately? Writing is superficial and forced. Combat encounters aren't designed very well. Atmosphere still seems to mostly be on point.

The problem with PoE was that it was over written, and the lead writer himself admitted it since he hadn't written prose in a very long time and they didn't have time to do an editing pass.
The game itself in terms of story ended up better than BG.
