also OP, 3 is not terrible, but it's not nearly as good as 1 and 2.
give it a playthrough, but expect the modern handholding and mechanics that are staples in most TPS games.

It's not like Max Payne 1 & 2 didn't also have the occasional (sometimes optional) cutscene, but it was the exception as opposed to the rule. I remember in Max Payne 1 the presence of enemies was more often communicated through audio cues (whistling, conversation, television).

the best looking 2003 game and most oprimized by far

The first games dream sequences where you have to run on the blood trail are some of the worst garbage levels I've played in a 3rd person shooter.

However, the entire rest of the game was great. The cutscenes are actually really good in at least the first game, haven't played 2 or 3.
