Doomguy has a hard advantage over demons and things fueled by demonic forces. He's a bad ass thats impossible to kill permanently given he canonically respawns in hell and fights his way out.
That said against foes that aren't straight up demons or grunts he might be fairly matched since he's very specialized for his usual prey. this is why while I like doomguy way more than Chief I kind of agree he'd lose to him due to the fact chief is a genetically/cybernetically enhanced super soldier with Mary Sue plot armor designed to fight other soldiers and canonly apparently better than most stronger Spartans due to him being "special" or some shit compared to Doomguy who was a fairly normal dude with out dated guns and a strong sense of justice. Doom 4 Doomguy has a better chance given all his new toys and runes but he's still heavily specialized against demons and his praetor suit only eats demonic energy.
