It's like they read /v/'s complaints and purposefully piss them off. Even people who like Fates and Awakening are bored by the roster being nothing but the basic predictable characters. So what do they do? Reveal Elise. Jesus. This is supposed to be a crossover and all it has is the most obligatory of story characters. All I want at this point is something, anything to prove to me the game isn't just royals and early shepards plus Marth. Even Tharja would be a breath of fresh air. This is the final nail for me. The imoutos were the only royals that could conceivably be left out. But here Elise is meaning Sakura will follow right after. Fates is, as everyone feared, just a complete royals wank. No Charlotte, no Oboro, no Arthur, no Hana. Hopes for characters like Orochi, Felicia, and any of the ninja were already shattered when the weapon list was confirmed. What an utter disappointment this has been. Now I'm wondering if even Azura will make it. Seems the director only played the first few chapters and probably didn't catch on to her importance at that point.

Fire Emblem lends itself well to this because it's about fighting and it's in a vaguely medieval setting. Any setting with cavalry and swords needs minimal fucking creativity to be turned into a musou. It's amazing how little they seem to care about the series itself given these roster choices but I guess that's what we get for expecting anything out of a musou.

Corrin was a mistake regardless of gender. Aqua is a horrid stain on the story as well. The other main characters have promise. IS wasted some decent characters in this game. With a little tweaking to some of them, specifically Marx and Garon, Fates could've had a pretty good story.

Getting back to Corrin, I kinda hope he is in and takes up a separate slot just to irritate everyone. They deserve it for saying the female version is better even though they are both horrible characters. Some people are hypocrites. As long as it has boobs, 99% of the time people will make excuses for the character even if said character is bad.

I think Fire Emblem "lending itself" so well to musou is actually one of its biggest failings. There's really little to no outside-of-the-box thinking because everything already translates so well to the musou style, there's really no "surprises" to be had as a result. Zelda is also a medieval-esque fantasy setting, but it's a lot more whimsical than Fire Emblem which leans towards more serious/mature settings so it was allowed to be creative and diverse in its characters and unique transitioning of Zelda iconography to musou.

It doesn't help that FE's entire cast change from game to game, leading to this issue with the roster. Zelda's cast is always the same from 3D Zelda to 3D Zelda, sans the side characters, so there was less complaining because we all expected Link/Zelda/Ganon/Sheik etc etc. whereas FE fans are always arguing over who the fuck's getting in. So even though HW also went with the "only three games for the base roster" thing, there wasn't much to whine about.

Rumors said that KT originally wanted to do either Mario Musou or Star Fox Musou, both of which I think would have allowed for much more creativity and less fanbase/roster shitflinging. Just look at how well Mario x Rabbids is doing.

This just makes me sad Ganny never got a horse moveset.

According to an interview it's because they're prioritizing the story mode for some bizarre reason. They've literally paid zero (0) attention to what fans wanted, instead opting to flesh out their shitty fanfiction.

For instance: the two OCs were given swords because their prologue is first and the devs wanted to introduce the weapon triangle with sword users.
Hilariously this move almost meant Lucina being cut due to too many fucking swords, but IS drew the line on that one.

Also Chrom was the first character put in the game because his CG model was already available. And from that characters with relationships with him (Lissa, Robin, Fred) were chosen. Again, all to make the story work.
