Man I remember how much fun Legion was for like the first three weeks before I realized what a lame grind it was. The game was always partially a chore simulator, but I felt like it was considerably worse in this expansion. It feels like there's a lot of little bullshit things they put into this expansion to waste your time, and the worst part about it is that a lot of it feels mandatory in the worst possible way.

It's like, it's less that I want to actually do the "content" and I'm only doing it because it FEELS like if I don't, I'll be way the fuck behind. That's what I hate about it. Gameplay wise, it isn't enjoyable. Wrath and MoP had way better endgames than this shit.

Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way, and maybe I'm just forgetting the fact that it's an MMO and it's gonna be grindy as shit, but I could swear it was never this obnoxious before.

No, you're right.
There were a lot of time gates preventing you from progressing your character, and if you chose not to do them then you would be at a huge disadvantage.
For example; if you didn't finish your class hall story line you would not unlock the third relic slot on your weapon which would be a pretty large dps loss. But the quest line forces you to finish follower missions that took 8 hours each, and you could only do one at a time. Granted they nerfed them down to 1 hour each but it's still pretty crap.
Or the entire Suramar questline that required you to grind rep to unlock the next quest chain, and they're doing the same thing in this patch with the new zone/rep.

I have enjoyed Legion's mythic dungeon system. Some of the affixes are awful, but in general I like it. XIV's ruined me on raiding though. Sure, one massive area is impressive and all, but WoW raiding just feels so tedious after doing XIV raiding.

What am I supposed to do? I fucking hate faceless mob raiding. I want a small intimate group to progress through content with, but Blizzard killed that at all levels so they'd have the freedom to put soaking mechanics on literally every single boss.
I also fucking hate time trials, so I have no desire to play Mythic+ either. If the game would go back to MoP mechanics, zone design and questing, with a few QOL changes, it would be perfect.

Mythic+ is not really that hard as far as the time limit goes since it's just upgrading the keystone vs getting 3 loot chests. Personally I find it as fantastic small group content.

I didn't really play Legion at launch so I can't comment on that but it's a lot better after 7.3 than it was in 7.2. Through very casual play I've gotten every class except monk to 110, all with 880-890 ilvl, with 52+ trait artifacts and flying. They practically hand you max AP now, and it really doesn't make that big of a difference unless you're into mythic raiding. My guild of shitters only had one guy with a maxed out artifact pre-7.3 and we were 8/9 heroic ToS.

Having access to all three trees was fun. Getting to use cool new abilities was fun. Getting rid of the massive rotation of buttons was fun.

Losing utility for every class was not fun. Having only one working spec, was not fun. Casting AOE DPS attacks in hallway dungeons was not fun. Doing harder versions of dungeons with rewards that were long outdated was not fun. Seeing people with new accounts using multiple legendaries was not fun. AP grinding for even a second, was not fun.
