No, FF4 and FF5 are significantly more challenging. 6 is a little more challening. Let's compare the mist dragon to the guard scorpion. The mist dragon does significant damage and the counter can two shot your party. The guard scorpion hits for baby damage, even if you trigger the counter.

Out of all of them I've played (I, III, VI, VII, VIII, XII, XIII and Tactics) VII is by far the easiest one. Any person with even the most basic understandings of how rpgs work can breeze through it.

Game development has changed. FF7 had a huge number and great variety of environments, and that was OK back when a town consisted of two 240p screens and battle backgrounds had 16x16 textures and countable polygons.

But making a game with AAA budget graphics in 2017 usually involves a handful of environments with a lot of recycled assets. And sequels are made based on those same areas that allow developers to further reuse the assets.

You might read that and think "well, gee, that sounds like fucking shit". But you might be surprised to know that videos are and have always been a business, and the more we push this graphical envelope, the more difficult and risky it becomes

If FF7 had been made today, it would have been entirely located within Midgar. But they can't very well make that game anymore because people are expecting a remake of the original game, something that's viable only if they split it up

The fact that no other game on the scale we're talking about here was released episodically makes all of this bullshit. The only mildly successful episodic games have been Telltales recent games or the things aping them, all of which are fractions of the scale of this remake. All Final Fantasy games are flawed. FF7 is alright, but revolutionary great? Come on, Tifa admits she was never close to Cloud yet she's all "Muh Cloud! I got to dedicate years of my life for this guy who I don't really care for!" Sephiroth also loses major points because he barely even exists. He's just sleeping around. The lack of explanation behind Jenova and the Ancients also hurts the plot.

But I'm gonna wait and see how far into the story, what kind of alterations that they did, and if Cloud's an emo fucktard (because Nomura, but seeing his character in Mobius FF's event seems to show otherwise but please find a new V.A for Cloud, my god is his lines are flat as fuck), and to see how will they handle the game's overworld mechanic, if I were not mistaken, Nomura's idea for "The other XIII", is to go with an overworld like structure, but I'll doubt they'll go with that design if they're going to be "episodic", I honestly hoped that they'll go with XII's world design. But, beggars can't be choosers, we'll see.
