This game was too talky. Supergiant has always been story heavy, but it never felt like it was actually breaking the flow. Bastion gave you lore while you played without stopping you, or gave it briefly during quiet time at the Bastion. Transistor did the same and actually gave me incentive to learn more about the Camarada by leveling up skills. Pyre made me mash space for ten hours and play the game for two. Still enjoyed the game, but vomited up most of the story after it was force fed to me.
Also, Pyre thread.
Music was top tier though

I really enjoyed the variety and the direction. But none of the tracks really got me hooked.

That's how visual novels work - the dialogue IS the core gameplay. And the moment I figured out that this game was a visual novel i knew I wasn't going to like it. It's literally the opposite in story-telling compared to bastion or transistor.
>>388880247
Was it intended to be a visual novel throughout development, or is that just how it turned out?
>>388880549
i have no idea m8. This is the game they wanted to make, so I assume they made it how they wanted.
>>388879826
I prefer how Bastion has you actually exploring the environments that the narrator is telling you about, as opposed to Pyre giving you a book detailing all the lore behind the scribes.
But at the same time, I thought it was a nice change of pace, and really liked the character interactions this time around, which weren't really a thing in the other games outside of a little text banter between Red and the sword.

Having to read the bulk of the lore certainly set up your role as the Reader in a logical way, though I wonder if there was a better way to let the characters get fleshed out.
While I can understand being upset that the gameplay heavy narrative of Transistor and Bastion didn't make a return in favor of something closer to the opposite, it's because this is a vastly different kind of game from those two and Supergiant fully committed to having a new experience.
It worked as far as I'm concerned. It's the only visual novel and sports game I've ever put serious time into and it's the first time I've cared about a companion cast like this since Dragon Age Origins nearly a decade ago.
Do not read the Book of Rites unless you feel compelled to do so. Anything involving the book in the story will catch you up to speed, on top of those little tidbits you can mouse over in the text with the quick gestalt on story things that people are talking about.

The bit where Volfred spoke to you in English was actually pretty dope
Her name is

I'm actually quite glad that the pacing was so different this time, even as someone who adored Bastion and Transistor. It's good that Supergiant aren't pigeonholed into "action RPG with a single silent character and a smooth talking narrator exploring a (post)apocalypse setting", even if I was a little disappointed that there are so few unique endings to Pyre.
>mfwfucking up every single liberation right still results in the commonwealth falling
At the very least I was expecting an ending wherenot freeing Pamitha but not freeing enough exiles to complete the planwould have resulted inthe Commonwealth repealing the Harpy attack and reforming into a brutal totalitarian regime without even the Rites as a mercy
Also >not picking Fae for _ae

I'm just saying only do it if you want to.
If you want to read the book it's great. If you don't, but feel like you have to, it's gonna suck

Oh yeah, you are absolutely right in that. I do keep wondering how comes that such a good game as Pyre got so little discussion here

I just want muh PLAN
but the narration style of their previous games never really leaves - the voice is way more chatty than the sword, and i found his narration style a lot more engaging
and the entire story revolves around reading, so it wouldn't really work if the whole shindig was spoken like transistor/bastion

For a visual novel it doesn't have much...art? Like for events and stuff, it's all talking heads moving around the screen.
Still love the game though, music is top tier.

he's actually fairly ambivalent to you personallyuntil you bring volfred into your ranks, there's even hints of familiarity here and there when he wishes you luck in your match against the withdrawn

problem is pyre isn't really like a traditional vn, there are just too many branching paths and side interactions to have proper event cgs
i would liked to have seenhedwyn waking up a sleeping bertrudeorfalcon ron making everyone uncomfortable in the wagonbut alas
Bertrude best tsundere

Didn't know I needed this.
Who else was positive that taking Falcon Ron was a bad idea, but did it anyway for the interactions?

This is what I've come to expect from Supergiant. This moment was great because it lets you fill in the gaps.
Hi Greg. You made a good game.
>>388887845
Pretty much.
Though I half-expected that it'd be something like his dangerous wares exploding or something.I find it funny that it was just him being mildly annoying.
