4k is a meme.

8k IS WHERE ITS AT
>>
I really doubt we'll ever get to the point where 8k makes sense for desktops
Even for 32" monitors 4K is not only more than enough in terms of sharpness but you even have to adjust the DPI to at least 125% to make it readable.
As far as TVs are concerned 8K only makes sense for extremely large TVs.
>>
who the fuck would want 8k? that would waste so much performance
>>
128K soon

i dont get it, there is nothing that supports this format.
unless you want to play Minecraft in 8k, cause your average AAA game probably needs a 10k PC to run at 8k

Wrong, HDMI 2.1 fully supports 8K 60Hz

8k isn't that important for clarity but it'd make a huge difference for image quality in games (e.g. less jaggies, more CGI-like appearance)

at what point does AA just not matter anymore, hell, even on a damn 4k 27" display, I can hardly see any jaggies with no AA
>>
>>388873292

agreed. I wish devs would stick to 1080p for now and try to reach 144hz on all games. then once they get there they can start improving the resolution.
>>
>>388873427
consoles don't even output at over 60hz, they keep trying to go for higher resolutions and lower frame rates instead with muh 4k* 24fps movie games
*checkerboard
>>
8k tvs have been showcased since 2012, they even have a 12k tv and by now im sure theres a 16k display.
>>
>>388873292

>>
>>388873360

i've read that 16k is pretty much the point where IQ becomes 100% pristine with no visible artifacting/aliasing at any screen size, that's what Pixar films are rendered at.

4k will be a good enough compromise for at least the next decade though.
>>
>>388870339

Might as well wait for 65355k
>>
Let me guess, they are going to use this on tiny fucking smartphones.

Why is 3840 x 2160 called 4K when 1920 x 1080 is called... well, 1080p?
I guess calling it 2K just didn't seem like enough of a upgrade for marketing people?

You don't play your PS2 games in 8k?
>>
>>388874882
When 1080p debuted as a mainstream standard it was referred to as "HD," but then greedy marketing assholes decided to start calling 720p "HD" so they could get away with selling cheaper displays to retarded consumers at insane markups. Eventually the 720p market collapsed and manufacturers realized they fucked up because they couldn't convince normies to buy their 1080p displays after already buying the 720p displays because they already had "HD" so they started calling it "True HD." Ultimately they discovered that normies can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p anyway so they just dropped all the bullshit and started calling it 1080p because it's no longer possible for 99% of consumers to go to the store and get a TV that is anything less than 1080p.

Just what we need. Inflated resolution with fucking netflix bitrate. Delete memek.
>>
>>388876338
Well then I guess I'm not talking about you then. But on a side note I'd even say that 4K movies and shows are a complete meme. Video games are the only thing that inherently benefit from higher resolutions. A movie at 720p with a high bitrate and 1080p with a high bitrate look almost identical because the source of the raw film is at such a high quality and being downsampled to 720/1080 still looks good. The only reason someone should own a 4K TV is if they play PC games on it in 4K.
>>
Remember when 1080p came out everyone said "standard" definition was fine?

>>388877343
Standard was "fine" but no one would argue that they couldn't tell the difference. With 4k however chances are you literally can't. And even if you do, what content are you going to watch? Netflix 4k looks just as bad as normal netflix because of the low bitrate. Most TV is still 720p. Games are as we know.

Luckily all it takes is to post a picture like that to prove them wrong. You simply can't do the same thing with 1080 vs 4k without cropping and zooming because the difference is so minute.

Fucking Comcast. Their signal is so compressed it makes me wonder why i bothered buying a 1080p for watching TV. Games and web videos look gorgeous on it, though.

I don't think you're paying attention if you think there's no noticeable difference in quality between 1080 and 4K.

I down scaled the 4K picture because it would've looked wonky on the site otherwise. This is what it would have looked like if I didn't downscale.
