More honestly, there's the speed guy who you want to play as 90% of the time, the flying guy who you want to play as 10% of the time to jump over something, and then there's the power guy who you never want to use but the game forces you to by introducing forced enemy gauntlets and enemies with tons of health to a series that previously did not have these things and was all about keeping momentum, as even the developers realized their own concept doesn't work.

all sonic heroes did was make it obvious how fucking irrelevant and lame knuckles is as a character, the shadow of the 90's who people like because he's the cool rival even though he sucks and all of his games are terrible

Nah, he still sucks. Actual platformer knuckles is just sonic except slower and he can't jump despite being black, with his climbing/glide mechanics being worse versions of tails flying (which you can combine with sonic or some other character in almost every game knuckles is playable in). It's even worse in his own game, where knuckles is the most useless ass character outside of the intentionally shit joke ones, literally everyone in that game can do the stuff knuckles is famous for but better without having his bitch legs that can't jump and constantly lose momentum on landing.

If you get to shitty sonic games it gets even worse. He's dogshit in literally every party/spinoff game with multiple characters and in adventure he has boring treasure hunting stuff because the developers realized that they had no idea what to actually do with his boring ass gameplay in 3D. Shit, he's not even in sonic unleashed even though that game was intentionally removing every shiity sonic character character created after 1994 even though half of that game is about fighting (knuckles "thing", aparantly) and fucking amy of all people is still around.

Knuckles sucks, he's always sucked, people only like him because of memes and the intro to sonic 3.
