Once you're good enough to beat them all, they become easy as fuck on re-plays.

Remember that your goal is to catch the UFO, not to get as many rings as possible, and you should be fine.

>Update: For the PC release of Sonic Mania, the emerald now speeds up when you get close to it in Mach 1 state (I suspect that this will also be the case in the patch console versions will receive soon). It is still possible to grab the emerald (generally when cutting a corner), but not as easy to do so in some cases.
