Birthright is a hot mess. It offers endless hordes of enemies that are easily soloed by one of the most disgusting characters ever created. Conquest is easily the best tactics game ive ever played though.

Honestly its amazing how these 2 games are on completely different ends of the spectrum.

most of the children are terrible but there are a few noteworthy exceptions. Ophelia is radical even if you have to use odin to get her. Velouria is a BEAST and you should have her early enough since keaton is a godsend for camilla. Percy is a good tank depending on mother and his paralogue give loads of money

in the ninja cave? Once you start aggroing them, they rush you down in little squads. many of the enemies wont move unless you enter their range so it shouldn't be too bad.

It really depends on what kind of person you are. For instance I had to force myself to finish Awakening and Birthright because the near endless route maps bored the hell out of me, and even Echoes became a bit of a slog. But I had no problem finishing Conquest despite the story. And of course there are others who couldn't finish Conquest because they couldn't tolerate the story. So the gameplay either carries it or the story ruins it.

Also opinions on characters vary but I think they're alright, though yours may at least partially depend on what supports you just happen to see.
