>Portal 2 was going to have a new setting and gameplay mechanics
>Valve gave in to fans wanting muh glados, muh chell, muh portal gun
Playtesters were a mistake
>>388838514
please elaborate
everything about the playtesting for portal 2 and l4d was a disaster and foretold the death of the company
>>388838623
Portal 2 was originally going to be set in Aperture Science during the '80s with a new cast and a new gameplay mechanic called F-Stop, Valve haven't revealed what F-Stop was because they want to use it in a future game (lol)
When playtesters where playing early builds of this project they just kept asking "WHERES GLADOS, WHERES THE CAKE AND EPIC SCIENCE HUMOR" so they scrappedd the project for a sequel all about Chell actually being Glados daughter and how they become friends
Reminder that devs alter their games to cater to sub-100 IQ tards
>>388839081
The way Valve playtest is so fucking weird. They set up a camera in front of your face and make notes of your expressions during certain sections, They also lose their shit if players don't look at the exact thing they're "supposed" to look at and will restructure entire maps to accomodate that like man chill it's just a fucking game
>>388838514
Portal 2 was full of new mechanics though.

No to mention in Portal 2 Glados' insults devolved into shitty fat/adoption jokes.
>the original plan was to have Cave Johnson's brain in a robot and him being the new villain
>we got Weathley and Glados again instead
Atleast those recordings were fun...
>>388838514
>>388840498
t. fat and adopted
>>388840443
>Johnson was so good he made it into the game anyway
How does he do it?
>>388840498
Portal 2 glados was pure reddit
It wasn't even Chell, it was some random person who was in cryo-sleep in some kind of pod that the pippy, stupid british robot woke up. Valve was just too lazy to create a new model. the writing was nothing but epic memes, though, Portal might've actually happened in the Half-Life universe but Portal 2 was LOL SO WACKY. It was like you were watching a sitcom based on a game that was already loosely based on Black Mesa's corporate rival.
>>388840889
>MUH REDDIT BOOGIE MAN!
Sorry that you have no humor, lol.
>>388840619
I can't read it, but it's the cap about the playtesters getting lost in the tunnel? I agree with them, even the simplified tunnel was hard to navigate.
>>388841115
>I agree with them, even the simplified tunnel was hard to navigate.
I beat it on the first try back when I was 12.
>>388838514
But the game's conclusion was great!

>Sorry that you have no humor, lol.
LE CAKE IS A LIE XD
>>388841510
That turret opera ending is such an artificial way to try induce feels in the audience
Portal 2 was only good for the co-op maps. But those were damn good.
All the silly stuff in Portal 2 happened in the same world as Half Life
>>388839081
I wonder if the playtester was a man or a woman...
>>388842690
Half-Life is full of quirky, upbeat characters that crack one-liners in an oppressive, genocidal world whats your point?
>>388842690
No it didn't.
>>388840889
Why? Glados was actually funny. Wheatley was more "LOL SO RANDOM" than her
>>388840889
You're getting mad at Glados' writing because she makes fun of Chell's weight but you're going to let Cave Johnson and his combustible lemons slide?
>>388838931
That's not even true though
>>388843539
Oh he's awful too, but Glados' humor is a very specific style of using lots of scientific techno-babble to throw out mundane insults in a matter of fact tone, It's exactly the kind of thing that redditors feel smart about laughing at
>>388844976
Oh and you would know a lot about that, wouldn't you?

Calling her pure reddit is a bit excessive, but I was disappointed at how they overused the humor in 2. It only worked as well as it did in 1 because it was understated and clashed with the otherwise grim tone and lonely atmosphere of the game. I was looking forward to more of that but 2 ruined it by trying too hard and not knowing when to give it a rest.
>The third team, "The Elders of Zion", named as such because the group was largely comprised of Jewish employees, was led by Erik Wolpaw. They showcased the Two Bots, One Wrench experiment, the name being a play on the infamous 2007 scatological video 2 Girls 1 Cup. The experiment involved the player as a wrench-wielding hero, and two AI-driven robots, one brown with a deep, masculine voice, rough and gruff (voiced by Richard Lord, who also provided the placeholder voice for Wheatley), the other with a proclivity for wearing hats and a high-pitched, feminine voice.
There are so many layers of "OY VEY" going on here
With the exception of the old Aperture building segment Portal 2 is a 10/10 game with excellent replay value and fun co-op multiplayer

That's some odd terminology, it must been incredibly meta testing portal 2 for Aper- I mean Valve

Someone on reddit claims that it was them. But I see no quick indication of gender. Also, I only know that because I've been linked to it before.
