It's Yakuza characters playing Hokuto characters, just like Yakuza characters played the historical people in the Kenzan and Ishin games.
Think of it as a Hokuto "movie" where the actors are the Yakuza characters, including Kamurocho playing the role of post apocalyptic wasteland.

Kenshiro is played by Kiryu (series protagonist)
Shin is played by Nishiki (Kiryu's best friend/rival from the first game)

Anon, those are pedestrians. That's how the games always did combat, it's instanced like in JRPGs. As in, you run into an enemy on the "map", fade to black, fade in to combat where buildings are the arena walls and pedestrians filling in as walls on pavement/road to prevent you from going out of the instanced arena.
Same here, it's not a musou despite you seeing a lot of people on screen, the ones in the background are just there as wall for the instanced arena and are simply bystanders looking on the fight.

Yakuza 6 is the only one with real-time transition combat without instances, but that only applies to main city parts and everywhere else its still instanced, and the fact they made it real time impacted all other areas of the game negatively including combat being MUCH worse than any game prior with exception to Yakuza 1 on PS2.

That's why this game runnning on Yakuza 0 engine, which is the absolutely peak of the franchise, is such a good thing. The devs basically admitted that Dragon Engine (Y6 engine) is shit.

How to get into HnK:

Anime for first time, there is a bit of filler but only at the start, and half of it is actually much needed character development that manga didn't have at the beginning since it was written as a one-shot due to not expecting success.
It also rotates some early events chronology to make better sense than in the manga.
And most importantly, while artwork obviously isn't anywhere near as good as manga, the voice acting, music and direction are absolutely top of the line 10/10 material.

Raoh wanted to be defeated. They were taught Hokuto Shinken and that was all they had to live for. He's still human though, and when Yuria comes in he's incredibly confused. He knew that his brothers wanting to defeat him was their way of saying how much they loved him regardlesa.

That's why he cries when Toki is too weak to defeat him. It's all very touching. And then Kenshiro's final exchange with him is one of serenity and understanding. It's beautiful, simply put.

Hokuto no Ken 2 despite all its borderline insulting palette swap fuckery, still did elaborate on the lore in some interesting ways and basically confirmed that Raoh's line was the intended line of successors. HnK2 basically only exists to add even more to Raoh's backstory and uses palette swaps of him and Toki to tell the story.

There's so much wrong with your statement that I want to bash your skull in with a hammer.
You can't remake it and make it good.
Literally half of the voice actors are dead, for starters.
Secondly, it would be digital animation which doesn't even hold a candle to cel based animation.
Third, direction would also be awful because modern anime is about being kinetic and Hokuto no Ken (like Berserk) was NEVER a kinetic manga, which is why the Berserk CGI anime is trash in not just the way it looks due to CGI, but also trash in terms of direction (the way scenes are arranged, camera angles, pans and so on).
And finally, the music wouldn't be 80s music.

Hokuto no Ken is a product of its time, you can't recreate the magic of the original in modern times. Be happy we have those great looking remastered DVDs from the series 25th anniversary, since you won't be getting Blurays ever due to originals being lost to the great Tokyo warehouse fire.

Maybe it's not in Volume 15 but 16, since there have been two or three different prints of the manga in book format, so they may have slightly altered amount of chapters per book and thus put the image off. Try checking volume 16 in whatever you have.

Yeah those are the shittier filler episodes I mentioned, but then you have the legitimately great fillers that establish Shin's motivations and backstory, the WW2 railway cannon one or the entire Shin's army rebellion and Shin dueling with that dude being 1:1 copy of the choreography from the HnK Prototype manga.

Manga has awful pacing and 0 character development early on and lacks the god tier voice acting, direction and music of the anime.

Ishin wasn't brought over because Sega took a hiatus localizing Yakuza for a while. It came out in early 2014 as a launch game for the PS4 and Yakuza 5 didn't came out in the west until late 2015. After that, it made more sense to localize the next mainline entry instead of a non-canon spinoff.

Nah man, they did elaborate a lot on Shin's backstory, we see more scenes from Shin's perspective, his internal conflict over Yuria's wishes and his own obsession and so on. Later arcs don't add anything of the sort since they're straight up 1:1 adaptations of the manga, with only exceptions being that children that died in the manga end up saved by Ken in the anime due to TV demands, but that's it.

Two generation differences of gameplay improvements. Yakuza 1 on PS2 is the most clunky and worst playing game in the series by virtue of being the first one. Yakuza 2 improved A LOT and the differences from then on aren't as big between games as between Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2, but then there's another huge power gap from Yakuza 5 to Yakuza 0, since 0 is just THAT much of an improvement in terms of engine and gameplay.

Discotek Media didn't really translate shit. They just reuse the same subs from Toei's digital/streaming releases of the anime (which are awkward at times).

North Stars Pictures prefers Thouzer, since that's what they insist on using in most of the current merchandizing that they're more directly involved with (it's even used in Ken's Rage and Puzzles & Dragons).

I just started trying to get into FotNS in anticipation for this game

I like it enough so far but I'm not so keen on how serious it takes itself, I do like however that it takes itself so serious that it loops back around and becomes hilarious
