If you're enjoying HoBL I would recommend World of Xeen. It's my favorite dungeon crawler by a mile and if you enjoy HoBL despite the shitty pixel art then you'll probably love Xeen with better pixel art.

Legend of Grimrock 1 and 2 are great. They're real time dungeon crawlers so you end up waltzing (Moving in and out of combat range to smack enemies and try to avoid smacks) but they have really enjoyable secrets/exploration/puzzles. They're also really newbie friendly.

Not really, other than you probably should be juggling multiple parties. As good as a lot of HoBL is, the dude went off the deep end with mandatory multiple parties as slow as building up power is in the game. If he makes a sequel I hope he makes it single-party focused and shorter campaigns to encourage replaying, since it's a pretty neat concept and the execution is close.
