I know the "S" in SRPG is transliterated as "simulation", but who the fuck actually calls them simulation RPGs? I just call strategy RPGs, because it makes more sense. I understand that they're supposed to be simulations of warfare, but the term "simulation" in regards to video games connotes something more along the lines of a life sim, business sim, flight sim, etc. Even western wargames like RTS/grand strategy, which typically have a degree of more realism than Japanese games, aren't really referred to as simulations.

is yggdra union any good?

I'd say it's worth a playthrough. Get the PSP version.
I really like the genre but I that I've never found a game that I would call perfect in it, I feel like I'm still waiting for the genre to mature into its full form, but it's dead.

Does it? I've always called them Strategy RPGs as well.
I always thought it meant "strategy."

Yes. Really interesting gameplay mechanics that make positioning very important. Give the PSP remake a try.

Your pic reminds me of that DSiWare DQ SRPG, Dragon Quest Wars. Actually I wouldn't even call it an SRPG, just a turn-based strategy game, since there was literally no story or stats.

Yeah, I've always just called them strategy RPGs too, but apparently the actual Japanese term for them is simulation RPG.

It looks like Onimusha tactics for GBA, very simple mechanics but still fun, good for playing on your cellphone to pass the time.
Last time I was in an SRPG thread, someone suggested Brigandine. I've only played some of the tutorial, but it seems cool.

just japanese gamers and I don't know if they still call them that or not. Any Japanese people here, is disgaea a simulation rpg? Is there an srpg section in game stores?
I always though it weird in since the first I ever played were FFT and Tactics Ogre I would have though they would be TRPG, not that there's tactics in the games really.

but they're tactical not strategic

Is Onimusha Tactics worth a playthrough? I've seen people shit on it due to how simplified it is.
>>388806501
Good enough to pass the time on your cellphone while waiting for something.
>>388804242
You can use "TRPG" instead if you don't like the confusion of "SRPG."

What about games like Dragon Force and Ogre Battle? Those tend to go beyond just tactical decision making.

Is Summon Night worth getting into? I know the GBA spinoffs aren't SRPGs, but the main games are, right?
