I really liked the direction they went with Skyward Sword. A lot of it was tedious, but a lot of it was fun, too. If the overly aggressive hand-holding and the repetition were removed from the game, it would make it so much better. I think the great parts of Skyward Sword are overlooked.

Because Ocarina was never overrated. SM64 and OoT changed the industry. Half-Life 2, the entire GTA series, Bioshock, TW3, the last of us. Games like that are regularly seen as the greatest games of all time by casuals because they honestly just care about the story and graphics and nothing else. To them gameplay doesn't matter at all.

It's most certainly serious. The biggest problem facing the 'Open World' design philosophy is the trend of games getting bigger, more cinematic and less intractable. BotW is the only game in recent memory that bucks the trend by being as intractable as possible. It's really a commendable property of the game while Horizon exemplifies the issue.

Oh I think it pretty much the definitive overrated game. It's an excellent game don't get me wrong and one of my favorites. However, it's far from perfect, so when you hold something up as a standard of perfection you multiply all it's flaws. Which is why future 3D Zelda games shared many of it's problems. Slow tutorial/story heavy introductions, hand holding, navi stand-in telling you how to solve the puzzle, strict reliance established structure.

The myth of OoT's perfection actively hurt the franchise and the game industry. Then again this became like a religion and anyone who deign to criticize perfection was branded a heretic. I fear the same fate might befall BotW, the first 3D Zelda that dared to step out of OoT's shadow. If BotW is held up as perfection we'll just see another dark age.

It's insane to me that this level of bias happens with Zelda. I played through both Breath of the Wild and Horizon, and while I preferred BotW, it does NOT deserve the praise it's getting. The durability, UI, story, side quests, and dungeons are all mediocre to shit. BotW gets movement and art direction right. I still thought it was good all things considered, but it's only a point above Horizon.
