I put in 20 just beating it with the 3 main characters with all 7 emeralds, and doing all of the Blue Sphere stuff.

I got it today and already have 7 hours played and I can't wait to play more

Based on old sonic games, i actually went into this expecting only 6 zones, maybe 2 extra. Wasn't expecting it to have as many levels as S3&K combined!

Anyone else feel like Blue Spheres as the checkpoint stages was a mistake?

FYI I'm fantastic at blue spheres (so many autistic hours spent on my Genesis), and I'm glad to play them again, but it just feels...out of place?

A bit, but you do need a lot of tries to get all the medals so I understand the checkpoint reasoning.

I understand the logic behind that, but I still managed to get all blue sphere zones perfected before I even had 4 chaos emeralds. Now I have absolutely no reason to enter those stages, and when I accidentally end up in one, I look for the nearest red sphere.

I havent played Sonic Mania, but Sonic CD is my favorite Sonic game. Despite multiple replays and good understanding of each level, I still only have 10 hours on Steam. I hope this one's longer. Playing as different characters adds replay at least.

I did exactly this. After I beat the game I planned on starting up green hill, rushing a bonus stage, and restarting. However after I left the bonus stage I told myself "well I'll just find another ring before I restart", and before I knew it, I was on Lava Reef Zone.
