How excited are you for true horror kino?

My expectations are tempered, but I like the idea that they're actually having more fun with the premise rather than just having another mismatched batch of horror set-pieces.

How is this game made by nu-male developers?
>>
As long as this game doesn't get transformed into another Amnesia/Alien/Outlast clone like every other horror game of the past decade, I'm fine with it.
>>
>>388771245
>he doesn't know the new dev team is a bunch of bearded betas
>>
>>388771245
isn't it the RE4 developer surrounding himself by a bunch of American nu-males?
>>
>>388771438
>>388771478
The head director of the game, who you all say is an "American nu-male", was also the director of the DLC expansions for the original game, which were some of the best parts of the entire package. The story wasn't cucked, either (unless you consider having to play as Kidman as cucked).
>>
Evil Within 1 did have a plot, but its just that most of it was hidden behind journal entries and occasional details in the environment.
>>
>>388770830
fix the aiming please
>>
>>388771651
I know, and the story was great, but it had a very sloppy narrative. I loved the original game, and it's one of my favorite games ever, but the story presentation really needed some work.
>>
Cautiously optimistic. As long as it's no more flawed than the first game I'll enjoy it. The new direction looks way more inspired at least.
>>
>>388770830
Looking forward to it
>>
>>388771781
>I know, and the story was great, but it had a very sloppy narrative.

I thought that was kind of the point. You're in a world full of cliche horror movie and game tropes because you're trapped in a nightmare

I don't want to sound like I'm shilling for the game, because I thought it was mediocre.
>>
>>388771979
You're not shilling the game any more than I am (am OP and first game is one of my top 5 favorites ever).
I'm saying that just going from place to place with no real direction til the final 4 levels was a little janky. Having Sebastian seemingly know more about what was going on than the player was janky, as well.
The second game is keeping the random horror encounters - one side building starts a new random encounter with another Japanese horror girl who can clip through doors - but the overarching story will have more emotion and character growth, and will actually explain the primary plot more, without the need for little notes.
>>
>>388770830
Nice that they're giving Sebastian some emotional investment this time around looking for a family member, but it's kind of odd, considering that I don't remember him mentioning his family at all outside of newspaper articles about his wife's supposed death.
>>
>>388770830
When does it come out?
>>
I kind of wish The Evil Within kept to the supernatural-horror rumors surrounding it. A detective and his partner go to investigate spooky thing with other police, then they find themselves trapped in a horror nightmare. It was almost like Silent Hill.

This dive into your dreams and others dreams, mind fuse and try to reject each other, psychic powers, super genius shit is too much for me.

>Slower pacing
Are you kidding me? TeW1 was fuckin' sloooooooooooooooooooooooooow.

Its problem wasn't the speed of pacing, it was the sheer difference of all the set pieces. Being in Ruvik's Mind was no excuse for the illogical tone of all the pieces. Once you pass the village and hit the castle and now you're blasting fools like it's a Resident Evil Mercenaries stage, things were tone-deaf. Switching back to spooky wire-mesh fence cave with Laura creeping around made it seem alright but then oop nope you're running around a cemetary maze instead fighting a big dog thing and then lots of dudes including a big huge guy who's kind of a mini boss.

And let's not forget the end sequence, oh lord. I just really hope TeW2 is more consistent in where it wants to go, if it wants to get more actiony towards the later segments - sure - but I hope it stays consistent instead of being all over the place.

I'm angry about having to wait another 2 months but other than that I am super eager to play this.

>an actual story
This is the only one I'll call 'Not True' on. The first game HAD a story but you were trapped in the mind of a lunatic who had merged and assimilated nothing but the insane, if it wasn't chaos then they weren't that nutty to begging with. The story is chaotic because Seb was pretty much engulfed in chaos. They tell you what happens, you can piece together an understanding of what the story is but it takes a bit more effort because of the abstract nature of the world.
>>
>>388773980
One of the reasons I love this game so much is that every level feels like a different horror movie. I'm a huge fan of Italian, Asian, American, etc horror so it was cool seeing so many styles rather than just one.

It's the only game to actually give me nightmares.
>>
>>388773980
Don't forget the giant killer fish monster in the level where you cant touch the water, or the rail shooter sequence with the giant fat spider thing chasing your bus.

The game felt, to me, like the nightmare of a guy who watches way too many movies. Especially with all the movie posters on walls everywhere in the city.

This would have made sense, except Laura appears to have died in the barn fire in fucking 1930, the villagers all have pitchforks

I take exception. Why is it that people act like having a linear game is a bad thing? Linear and none linear are neither good nor bad, they are just aspects of the game. It's like saying first person's bad. No, the fuck it ain't. It's just a trait.

Not every game has to be an open world sandbox.

I heard that the original game was going to be a PS3/360 title but they switch it up to next gen half way when they got the dev kits for the new systems. Mikami mentioned on an interview how pissed he was he had to make the game twice, or something like that.

How do you know? Did you play the demo? I wanna play the demo.
>>
>>388776663
Some people want a horror game with high replay value, that doesn't resort to a half-assed multiplayer mode slapped on.

eg: Dead Space multiplayer, resident evil raid mode, etc
>>
>>388776663
It's supposed to be like Silent Hill. You could explore in that game, but it wasn't open world.
The first game was literally a corridor simulator. I love linear games more than anything, but TEW did it a bit too much.
>>
>>388770830
Have the enemy designs gotten more creative? The majority of them in evil within were just generic gray humans.
>>
Not a fan of the fact they're bringing Sebastian back.
Definitely not a fan of YOUR DAUGHTER IS STILL OUT THERE storyline.

And the pacing was literally the absolute best aspect of the first game, the first game was so unpredictable, as someone who's been playing games for 20 years it somehow always ended up surprising me with a wild new setpiece or completely against type design choice.

also: western devs are fucking shit unless they're modders

Jump scares are the lowest of the low when it comes to horror.

There is a reason why Silent Hill 1-3 are the best horror games and have little to no jump scares.

Hell those games even alert you when danger is around even if you can't see it and they still manage to be scary.

I like TEW but it aint saving the genre

Played the first game religiously. I can say that I love it despite the myriad of issues people heap at its feet. TEW 2 has me pretty excited but I'm pretty disappointed about the voice actor changes. That's one thing that always takes away from characters for me.

Regardless, the game looks incredibly promising in terms of both gameplay and its environs/enemies. Additionally, I'm excited that it gives us a chance to play as Seb again and see how his story moves forward.

No word on him though my theory is that after he is taken by Mobius at the end of the first game they make him one of their agents. In TEW 2 there are already Mobius agents inside of the STEM before Seb enters, Joseph will probably be one of them.

>>388788815
Kidman was originally tasked with infiltrating KCPD to keep tabs on any investigators that got suspicious about Mobius. Mobius then tasked her to retrieve Leslie Withers within the STEM to prevent Ruvik from escaping. In TEW 2, Mobius wants Seb to enter the STEM again because 1)He already survived being inside a STEM system before and 2) his daughter is the host of the new STEM which acts as a convenient motivator to get Seb to rescue her.

>>
>>388790149
Dunno, I imagine that will be a major plotpoint. My theory is that Mobius wanted to see if a STEM system would fare any better if an innocent child was the host instead of a deranged serial killer. Additionally, Seb's wife is a Mobius agent so she probably offered her up to use.

>>388790267

The entire game isn't open world, there will just be a larger hubworld like Silent Hill. You can see in one of the videos that Seb enters a house then teleports to a Beacon Hospital-esque hide and seek sequence with not-Laura. Which I think is a bad thing since random teleports ruined the tension and pacing of the first game, but hey, its there for people who liked the forced stealth segments.
>>
>>388790267
The entire game isn't open world. There are linear sections just like the first one but also bigger areas you can explore and do side stuff in.
>>

Mobius wanted Leslie as their STEM host. They wanted to use him because he was mentally handicapped, and wouldn't cause major issues if he became the Core. Ruvik was pissed at Mobius from the start, and he's the entire reason STEM became a hellhole.
Ruvik succeeds by the end of the main game. He escapes into the real world with Leslie as his host. This is confirmed by the Administrator telling Kidman that she had failed after Ruvik evaporated Leslie.
They needed another option. Chances are, Myra (Seb's wife) offered up Lily a LONG time ago. That's why she was "killed off" in a fire, when, in actuality, she was being tailored by Mobius to be used as a STEM Core in the event Leslie wasn't an option.

Leslie isn't an option; thus, Lily is now the Core.

>pre-order bonus just makes the game easier
Re7 did the same thing, why do they think this will motivate people to pre-order?

As a Berserkfag, and the one who posted what was above, I can confirm.
Fanbases ruin everything. It'd be better if we could judge things alone, without the ability to discuss other's thoughts on it. I'm not even joking.

If that was reality, though, /v/ would die.
Berserk's fanbase has become a perpetual circlejerk. I mostly disconnect myself from it. It's great, but the community turns a lot of people off from it. I'm guilty of shilling it, myself.

i dont run into many people who talk about berserk so it's pretty much not an issue.

I expect it to be shit, but the extremely blatant shilling on /v/ means I will most likely pirate it and not seed, just to be a dick.

>talking about something you care about
>shilling
I swear, people who shout "shill" are actually unfeeling robots, incapable of understanding human emotions, such as hype and anticipation
>>

Its shilled constantly on every board. Especially on /v/ because Berserk is a known inspiration for quite a few games (Souls in particular) and even has official in-game promotions like Dragon's Dogma's Berserk costumes. So basically lurk more and you'll see how cancerous you fags are.

The voice acting is pretty shit. I miss the original Seb. The new one just sounds off. Its lacking that deadpan sarcasm and just sounds generic. The decision to make the game yet another daughter simulator feels cheap too.

>shilling
Ah yes, the board for videogames shouldn't be used to talk about them

I hate you.

Even the ones that like TEW will openly admit to its numerous flaws.

I didn't really have any real complaints for the first game. Never understood why people didn't like it more.

You heard it here, folks!

I should probably play/watch the DLC.

I don't even remember what STEM was meant to be used for.

The DLC is actually crucial for understanding anything about the game. Check it out.

Gameplay was great but it looked hideous, I'm glad they're updating the engine

What do we know about the weapons? Only having one shotgun and one pistol and one rifle on your first playthrough really fucking sucked.
>>
>>388780378
Too many cutscenes. Cutscenes aren't scary because you're watching a movie and you're not in control. You can't die in a cutscene.
