I have been playing Shadows of the Damned for awhile, but it's very frustrating how close it comes to being great.

The controls are pretty fucking good, but the enemies are rarely a challenge.

The art direction is good, but the battles feel like they all take place in generic small fields.

The bosses have great backstory but very little personality.

The humor is spot-on, but the story goes along really sluggishly.

The weapon variety is nice, but barely even called for.

The light based mechanics are fresh, but pretty plain and rarely require any experimentation.

I've gotten to the castle and it's getting much better, like a final exam type world. But instead of being Resident Evil 4 but cooler, it comes off as Resident Evil 4 but blander.
