They actually made it easier with the new shoulder tackle shit. GS in a group doing consistent charges and not just unsheath attacks over and over takes pretty good knowledge of the monsters, but some of the stuff is silly. Of all the E-Z weapons though, GS is definitely not the easiest. It just happens to shit damage.

Eh. Bow is way more difficult to get good times with. GS in a lot of the games benefits greatly from being able to flinch easily. I've always wanted gun hammer to expand into its own weapon class.

You get 6 chambers to load in different ammo types that deposit guaranteed huge elemental or status damage, and every hammer can accept different kinds.

Without ammo, they do paltry damage and middling KO damage at best, so they're basically status depositors.

Every time I try a new weapon I don't like it as much. I think I was spoiled on the movement speed and reach. This is how I live now.

I usualyl main Hammer, or GS. I took a liking to Bow and SnS in 3U though, used Lance or Heavy Bowgun in every single water hunt though.

Basically every new game I pick a bread and butter weapon, and then try something new.

I love hammers, but HH gives me the poundin n beatin of a hammer, with slightly better range and them buffs that I can use to save team/distract monster/be a faggot

Disagree totally. Lance 100% depends on people not getting too far away from the monster since repositioning is a bitch unless you build around evade extender. Solo you can keep a monster 100% on you. There are small exceptions (diablos is a notable one) but monsters like Narga and Barioth just get fucked by solo lance. Charge Blade has no singular good mode, that is the point of the weapon. Doing nothing but Sword mode gets you no where, even in 4U your strongest combos for damage is Axe Mode's default spins on a downed monster

I'm going to dump GS for GL and Charge Blade maybe even LBG and HBG now that actually using the things doesn't look terrible. I don't really like the changes to GS in World, I feel like it was perfect in 4U. Having 3 levels of charge seems incredibly unwieldy and unpractical to use. Until I see motion values I feel like it'd be better to do the normal charge into the super charge on downed monsters. I also dislike the removal of the follow up slash after the super charge, that was one of my favorite additions in 4U.

Basically Lance is faster and has triple evade moves and can be both played defensively and 'skillfully' (Evade Lance is relying on I-frames of your dodges rather than your block). You also get the special Piercing damage type that pretty much works on any monster because it picks whatever defense (Slash/Blunt) is the lowest and deals that damage to a monster part.

Gunlance has the ability to fire shots, they're weak individually and don't scale well but they extend your range and bypass regular defenses. You also get the ability of firing off all your shells at once after a combo, using a powerful charged shot and firing off a huge blast that deals a lot of damage but has a timed cooldown. It also has only one dodge so it has to rely on the shield to block attacks.

tl;dr - Lance is faster and provides better mobility, Gunlance trades that for shots and burst damage.

Monster Hunter Tri was my first and last Monster Hunter game. I got up to Barroth.

The short is if you hit scaling at the right times, gunlance is good because the shells do stupid damage... and then late within that rank, they start sucking shit. Lance is better as it is more consistent and has better movement options. You must learn the way of the backhop and shield rush.

It's a G2 quest where you fight a Brachydios and a Stygian Zinogre at the same time. The Brach isn't TOO bad, except when he decides to literally run circles around you, but the S. Zinogre is a fucking asshole, and when he's all charged up, he makes these annoying as fuck spheres that do dragon damage, as well as inflict dragonblight, and they track you like a motherfucker.
Worst part about it? It takes place in Volcanic Hollow.

Apparently in one of the 4th gen games Insect Glaive was really popular with (bad) French players. Due to how mounting works (you gotta jump on the monster) and the IG's pole vault they ALWAYS went for mounting but they can never do it right. They also never changed their default messages from French so anytime they'd try to mount and fail you'd see this:

"JE SUIS MONTE" = I've climbed/mounted it!
"Pardon" = "Sorry" after failing
