About to play the first witcher, never played any before. Should

vanilla is fine, the combat is underwhelming but no mod is going to fix that.

I'm also interested in any decent mods out there. Wanted to play the Witcher series before I played 3.

Witcher 1 doesn't really have any other worth while mods.

There is that mod that adds scabbards. Not super vital but an inmersion fag like me found it useful

I would advise starting with a handful of mods that don't otherwise fuck up the experience.

First and most importantly - you want "Rise of the White Wolf Enhanced Edition". It upgrades the GUI, graphics/textures etc.. does some "unofficial patch" kinda stuff like putting back in a quest or two etc.. and overall is the best way to play the original The Witcher Enhanced Edition Director's Cut. There's also The Witcher Overhaul Project (which is compatible with Rise of the White Wolf, if you make sure to read what things to check/not check etc) which will finish up a texture upgrade and overhaul.for everything Rise didn't do. http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher/mods/703/?

Scabbard Mod does what it says, puts scabbards on all your swords. It was created by original CDPR developers, but relegated to a mod because of clipping issues. Hard to find now days (its not on Nexus anymore, check other sites).

Want better looking swords to go with everything else? Complete Sword Overhaul - http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher/mods/719/? . Also makes it so your upgraded new weapons actually look different etc.

Sex Takes Time Mod - http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher/mods/330/? - enhances your trysts so time passes and you actually go to a specific place for each character... really well done.

So that will get you started. All of these are compatible and work well together which will give you an 'enhanced vanilla" experience. Enjoy

Yeah, this is about it. Well, the "full combat rebalance" doesn't make it more like TW3 style combat but it does make it more difficult and a bit more active. I don't think I'd suggest it to anyone who hasn't played unmodified combat first though due to the difficulty raise.

And yeah The Witcher isn't shit, its a great game with a clunky combat system compared to its sequels, but the core of the experience is worthwhile. Made even more so with the mods I noted above.
