Difficulty is one of the least, if not the least, important aspect of a videogame.

Some games definitely benefit from the sense of danger difficulty gives, which would otherwise be a fucking snoozefest.

Wouldn't expect anything else from someone who likes neptunia games
Some people's type of fun is the challenge
Entirely dependent on genre. A shmup with no difficulty curve would be pointless.
>>388693780
Depends on the game. If I'm playing Stardew Valley I'm not in it for the challenge.

We can all agree on the most important aspect though, right?Music.
>>388697362
Actually itsatmosphere
>>388693780
the better question would be fixed or selectable difficulties?
>>388693780
Snoozefest easymode-only games are not real games.
>>388697362
Agreed.

Difficulty selects the quality of the fanbase.
All else being equal, like fun.
>hard: small, tight knit group
>easy as fuck: large, faceless and unknown masses
The latter is perfect for the new breed of normalfag that wants to be considered a geek or nerd. They don't have to try and the screen tells them they're a winner with cheevo popups every 5 minutes.
The other kind wants to fully immerse themselves in the media, to escape the problems real world. So they welcome the challenge, they're want to be there.

It really does depend on the genre but a video games does need to have some difficulty or challenge. A game that's too easy can be very boring.
>>388693780
Difficulty can have a real impact on the satisfaction you're rewarded from completing certain parts of the game
and it can also contribute to the atmosphere of a game and the sense of urgency

Fighting games are mechanically difficult but the fanbase is still shit.
