I'd say pick up Torchlight 2 (with synergies and essentials mod, vanilla is a bit boring) or PoE.

Diablo is fun enough, but I just feel builds are pretty obvious and the build variety is just too lame and not really there.

I've played all 3 recently to scratch my ARPG itch, and I don't think Diablo 3 is that bad to play or anything, but it's fun enough. I just think Synergies on Tochlight 2 is god tier ARPG shit.

No worries, if you're looking for a strong DPS build, I'd recommend a Necro or a Wizard.
Barb also has very fun builds.

There's no garbage class, they're all good, the game isn't meant to be difficult it's just an infinite power creep.

Also every class plays more or less the same, mash every ability that isn't currently on cooldown and spam left click, there's very few builds that aren't that.

Sadly that's what I expected, but thanks for the info. It seems a far cry from the build variety of Diablo 2. Hopefully the fun with friends will elevate it.

Not really into ARPGs but I've played Torchlight 1/2 and Diablo 3.
Is PoE much better? Diablo was so boring at times just spamming abilities and feeling invincible.

I'd say Torchlight 2 and POE have more shit going on so you do have to worry about death, but ultimately the genre is just spamming for big damage.

The only fun I had in this game since the grinding-for-ilevel-gear-in-inferno-act-2 days was playing zdps monk with friends.

I don't know what support builds are good now but if I had people to play with regularly I'd do that.
