Malfurion comes back, does all the crap he did at the start of Cata, takes it to far and before you know it: night elves are now in full blown civil war all over the continent

would have fit perfectly with the entire storyline, night elf civil war leaves a power vaccuum in Kalimdor which Garrosh uses to expand drastically, rebels get beaten back more and more causing them to ally with elemental powers and maybe even do something truly drastic like say, have Tyrande and Malfurion be kicked out of Darnassus together with their loyalists and highborne causing them to seek refuge with the Draenei

eventually a peace is signed at the very end of the xpac but the outcome is a significantly more radicalized night elf society with new leadership who's not afraid to get dirty and who've managed to make friends with the worgen in their mutual hateboner for the horde

Malfurion and Tyrande still live and the former even keeps running the Circle but they're no longer welcome in Darnassus

You know, actual character progression and shit.

Oh yes it is, you pick a few characters like Varian, Chromie and Jaina, then compare them to sad fucks like Tychus, Lucio and Zarya. Blizzard is shit at balancing, every time they touch a character because they believe it's too OP they nerf said character into oblivion, just look at every single rework they have done.

then the next patch she personally raises Nazjatar up to the surface and starts the final phase of her evil plans right in the middle forcing the horde and the alliance to stage a desperate suicide attack turning the entire city into the final raid
