Taxman and Aaron Webber are encouraging people to go to this link to request Denuvo's removal from Sonic Mania:

https://support.sega.co.uk/hc/en-us/requests/new

So if you're gonna bother just complaining out into the ether on /v/, you might as well do so somewhere where it actually matters.

Taxman is just as at fault for this as sega.

This, it just shows, if steam decided to charge for online, and CURRENT GEN PC gaming just became a locked down better looking console kind of gaming, what the FUCK would muatards even do?? Seriously, if i was a corp, and THIS was enough to stump the average steam user, id be fucking the player base so hard. What are they gonna do? Accept it. Thats what.
>>
>>388656519
Not saying you should buy a switch or anything, but handhelds are the ultimate in comfy. I'm so glad they released Mania on it. Hope the denuvo situation resolves on pc, because always-online drm is truly awful.
>>
>>388661501

What's worse is that Denuvo can fuck up performance, if RIME is anything to go by.

>devs silently shove in Denuvo at the last second
>people complain
>"we'll remove it if the game gets cracked"
>Baldman cracks it, along with giving an extensive report about how Denuvo (and particularly in RIME) majorly fucks up performance
>Devs deny this
>Denuvo even makes an official statement saying he's lying to smear their good name
>Baldman goes fuck it and dumps the entire log to prove his point
>Devs just slink away from the argument (never rebutting Baldman's log) and remove DRM to not look like complete liars
>>
>>388661959
Also left the totally DRM free GOG version high and dry without the last two patches of bugfixes. RiME is 1.4 every except GOG where it's 1.2

I don't really care if people pirate games, but just curious, is Denuvo bad for people who don't pirate? I mostly play on consoles, though I do play on PC from time to time, I haven't played any games that have used it yet. Does it like fuck up your games performance or something? Or is it just people bitching that they can't pirate?

Some have said that Denuvo only checks periodically to see if you have access to the internet, so it CAN actually be used online. Sonic Mania alrready has a mod made for it, so the whole "can't mod with Denuvo" meme has been thrown out the Window as well.

Now it's basically just butthurt piratefags. I was goingt o pirate it too because of the delay pushing me to buy it on Xbone, but I'm not a crybaby and will wait.
>>
>>388664229
It's slightly taxing on performance depending on your PC, and always runs in the background. It's just a nuisance that doesn't fucking matter anyways because people are going to crack the game regardless, so all it does is hurt the people who bought it.

It also fucks up with TW WH and DOOM loading times, I have both in my steam library and the cracked versions are so much faster on startup.
No change in FPS though, but the games themselves boot in 10 seconds vs the full minute of Denuvo.

It damages SSDs, hurts performance (not in the case of a game like Sonic Mania unless you're REALLY playing this thing on a toaster because it is so undemanding) and generally causes issues.
But honestly a lot of it for me is out of all the DRM services available something about picking Denuvo feels especially disrespectful to the consumer
>We went out of our way to pay like 100,000 dollars for this fucking DRM service that causes issues for us and the consumer because they claim it's uncrackable despite a cursory google or basic knowledge of Denuvo revealing the exact opposite
>Pirates will be regularly be the only ones to be able to experience the game without issue
If there were no issues with Denuvo there'd be zero cases of devs removing Denuvo once the game gets cracked but that's happened a number of times.

Depending on how many "triggers" the game devs set up on the game protection it may take much more to launch the game or to load a savefile compared to a pirated version.
It also makes it so you can alter the .exe in no way, so if the game doesn't have mod tools integrated you're limited with what you can do, you can also experience bans for using cheat engine in a SP game which is a travesty.

For example current Bethesda published games like DOOM or Wolfenstein use it because they don't rely on user mods, but Fallout 4 couldn't use it because Denuvo would fuck up the script extender all the intricate mods in Skyrim/Fallout use.

The Just Cause 3 multiplayer mod had to be made with the modders in touch with the main devs in order to work around Denuvo which was fucking up the progresses.
And it still gets cracked eventually, so in the end the only ones getting a dick in their arse are paying customers.
>>

Then what's stopping people from trying to crack Sonic Mania? I'll bet you that people who legitimately paid for the game are going to try and crack the game now, not to give pirates a free games (although that will naturally happen), but so the devs take out Denuvo for everyone.

There wouldn't need to be Denuvo if PC gamers didn't just pirate everything. Not having Denuvo in a game is like opening the door to let a wild wolf into your house to eat you.

The developers are ultimately under the will of their director and the company funding their game since the company could easily pull the plug on funding or cancel their game altogether.

I'm getting Mania to support Taxman still, and because Sega making decent games from time to time still makes me support them even with a mistake like this.

Recently played Puyo Puyo Tetris with a friend who has a Switch while on a road trip with our buddies. Shit was awesome. Local multiplayer is fucking amazing.

It doesn't matter as much if the game is cracked much later after launch. The impatient have already caved and forked over the cash.

>>388672318
Wrong. Piracy's threat is a great check for poor business practices but you have no ground to stand on when companies push back. Anyone giving any excuse for hating this that isn't wanting to pirate it is full of shit. Jesus Christ look at this petulant post >>388670556 The absolute state of PCfags who can't even shell out $20 to play a great game and support more games like it being made. I wouldn't have such a problem with piracy if all the pirates weren't so intellectually dishonest fuckwits. You're acting like the developers are the bad guys for not wanting to get paid. What, they're going to make entertainment media purely for the love of it? Kill yourself, you commie scum.

I never realized how Useless PC fags are in the scope of gaming, putting together the wrost aspect of Nintendo Microsoft and Sony fags and instead of placing some small aspect of their respect in a company, they do it in their 2000 dollar computer. They want every game to be fucking perfect, and if one thing is wrong with it thats enough justification to just pirate it.

What makes me fucking SICK is that i once called myself a PC fag, and was proud of it

It's my understanding that Denuvo also makes games significantly more difficult to mod. Always online or not, that's a huge kick to the groin of people who were expecting to be able to mod in their favorite levels.

the game data (Data.rsdk) is ~180MB (mostly music) and the exe is 47MB

Wait, so it's not safe to buy Sonic? I don't understand what's going on honestly something about some anti piracy that makes you play it online?
>>
>>388683429
The game did get fixes though and you can't expect everything to get wiped out. Especially not in two weeks.
>>
>>388677416
The doublethink required to see things this way is insane. You're a pirate because you want shit for free and things like denuvo are made with combating that in mind. This is not an ambiguous chicken vs egg scenario. Yes piracy can check bad business but most pirates aren't doing what they do to be champions for the little guy.

Additionally, denuvo has absolutely been a net gain for them and they wouldn't use it otherwise. Most sales happen within the first two or three weeks of a game's release. If denuvo can safeguard against a crack for that timeframe it's done its job. If you think hackers always win because they EVENTUALLY break through then I'm sorry to say publishers and developers just don't see it that way.

>>
>>388684196
Denuvo basically works by scrambling shit around and running thousands of checks whenever you go into a loading phase. This causes a shit-ton of read/writes on your drive and if you're using an SSD that shit is going to degrade FAST. Earlier versions of Denuvo could actually cause drives to break themselves which is a lot more rare now, but the issue of using up read/writes is an inherent part of Denuvo's function.

This is probably why Stealth is pissed about it. The only reason Mania even exists is because he was able to mod games, so the fact they added something that prevents that and pinned the blame on his team is a serious kick in the balls.

I have about 30 hours in the Switch version and have only encountered 3 bugs.
The first is the obvious home button lag. I don't know why it takes so long for it to open the Switch home menu. It's really bizarre but not terribly intrusive, especially considering there's no need to open the controller menu for multiplayer, all you have to do is press the little triggers top triggers on the seperate joycons, and it automatically changes the right joycons to the second player. Pressing the shoulder buttons on the pair of joycons brings it back to 1 player.
The second bug I found was the Hydrocity bug, where holding left while falling during the transition into Act 1 clipped me through a wall. It's easily replicated and many others have posted about it too.
Lastly, a bug that I've never seen encountered by anyone else, where the mean bean machine boss trapped me after beating it as Tails. I wasn't able to continue or even move. Leaving the game where it was for 5-7 minutes eventually resolved the issue by itself.
Overall not very intrusive. The worst one was that last one, but I've yet to see it happen to anyone else and it hasn't happened to me since. Until the PC edition gets a modding scene I think the Switch version is the most definitive.
>>
Fuck Sonic Mania. I literally do not give a shit about this $20 ROM hack for me to install it onto the ONLY computer I have left which is a shitty 3 year old laptop just to destroy it with Denuvo's uber-metabolic read/write attacks. Fuck you Sega. Taxman should have remained a fan developer.
>>
>>388682983

In fact, after Sonic Mania, I am convinced that the joycon are my favorite way to play paltformers.
>>
>>388685489
