Alright FFXI fans and players, come here, need your opinions.

I subbed a couple months ago to try to play through some of the storylines. Got to max level, finished the original story and rise of the zilart and was halfway through chains of promathia before I quit (dipped toes into some of the other expansions for passive exp bonuses). It's a fine game but I feel like the spirit of the game is gone. Chains of promathia was great but the feeling of accomplishment doing it was gone for me and I could really feel that the game was meant to be played with other people working towards the end. If you are curious and want to steamroll everything you should be ok but the game really was meant to be a social experience in the early expansions and that social aspect has been completely lost.

That's what I'm searching for (or at least after a period of solo to get git gud enough to play with other people).

Fuck. Well, at this point my last hope could be the private servers, IIRC I read some anons talking about how some of those servers tried to recreate the social part of the original experience, but won't buy the game if even those aren't decent for that, thanks bro.

Why does FF have two MMOs going at the same time.

FFXI was my very first MMO so this may be biased, but I love it. Nowadays they made it so you can pretty much solo all the content all the way to level 99, so its very chill. I would give it a try! Just make sure you read up on some beginner guides, because there are some very easy to miss essential things you can do at the start to make your life a lot easier. Specifically picking a populated server ( I recommend Asura) and getting records of eminence started so you can get gear and GIL without having to use the auction house.

But to be honest, if you are looking for a more modern MMO, you can't go wrong with FF14. It takes a lot of ideas from FF11 and improves on them.
