What is your idea about a tank VS mech game? How would you make it work, how would you balance them out?

Brigador does it well enough. Tanks are tankier, their front/rear is determined by hull position, they can charge and crush enemies. Mechs can stomp and their front/rear is determined by torso position, so you can walk in one direction and turn torso towards incoming fire to minimize damage.

When the game starts, there is no mech, all the players is in a tank.
If 2 players combine, it became a chicken walker.
If 5 players combine, it became a voltron.

How many shells can a tank realistically hold? I really dont know. You might have more actual room in a mech for loading and holding.
If you have energy weapons on said tank, assume you need cooling and amplifiers. Ice being so much lower and heavier than a fusion engine and all that jazz.
