The main issue with the game is the runey system is just a pain to deal with mainly because of how low the range the vacuum has. Most people suggest using cheats so you don't have to deal with them but you potentially break the game because of the bonus reduction in crop growing time by using cheats to max out areas.

What are you going on about? Frontier had an obnoxious gimmick, but didn't attempt to move away from the core premise. It even had 1's cast.

It really wasn't. The giant was sluggish as fuck and not fun at all to control. In terms of the dungeons, they weren't really that much improved from previous installments, and I enjoyed the sense of progression in Frontier much more.

In terms of exploration (and just about everything else), 4 and Frontier >>>> ToD.

Emulate Frontier and disable the runeys. Before 4 came along, it was pretty much a debate between Frontierfags and 3fags. Some people still like 3 for the batshit insane waifus, though.

I poured a hundred hours into Frontier in spite of the runeys, but I honestly don't know that I'd have the patience for them these days.
