> it's not about the Valve shitshow earlier this week
> it's shitting on PUBG for doing what every other F2P shooter already does anyway
> it's month-old news on a game that happened to overtake Dota this week
> PUBG's crate system resembles TF2's more than OW's, but that's never mentioned
> Dota did prizepool crowdfunding first and foremost, but that's never mentioned
>essentially ends with "I think it will be shit"

Why did Jim just mimic a textbok Valve-paid shill?

Silly anon, I'm OP. I didn't even know that /v/ used Jim to fuel their BotW hateboner. I don't even know what Jim's problem really is.

But feel free to believe I'm lying.

This guy is cancer. Hope all your tumors from watching this guy are as unsightly as I imagine them /v/.

Now here's something to get mad at.
>>
>>388631425
I'd be curious to hear his ideas for on going monetisation for games like PUBG and OW, they can't release new champs like lol and monetised maps would split the playerbase which kills the game.

With games becoming iterative ongoing services they have to have a non p2w way to continue to fund themselves to justified continued support.

Once upon a time, you only had to pay for a game once, and developers weren't expected to update them except for fixing bugs.

With active content updates now being the norm, continued development being a tangible cost, and the fact that eventually a game will have been bought by everyone already willing to buy it, one-time payments aren't mathematically enough anymore. But no one can agree on what healthy DLC looks like.
>>
>>388635094
>Now here's something to applaud and celebrate

ftfy
>>
>>388636340
Bullshit /v/. You bought a game with its bugs and fucking dealt with it. Then you waited months for that sweet sweet Expansion pack. Nothing has changed except names for dlc and every game has to have micro transactions now.
>>
>>388636340
OK fair enough no one agrees on healthy DLC, but why did your just rephrase my statement st the start?
>>
Fat little bitch taking flak because he can't make an actual argument worth a shit unless it's a literally who Unity project full of stolen assets and MS Paint UIs.

For fucks sake, there was no shitshow. Valve didn't come out and say "fuck off the edge of our collective dicks, half-life fans". An ex-writer released his version of episode 3. THAT WAS IT.

Crates in Overwatch:
>pay real life $$$
>you probably won't get the item you wanted because RNG
>stuck with the item
>have to wear a cockcage

Crates in PUBG:
>play the game and get points for playing good
>buy crates with these coins
>wear the item you got or sell it on the steam market
>make $$$ while playing the game#
>>
>>388637557
You conveniently forgot to mention that OW crates can also be obtained without paying real money. It's cancerous regardless.
>>
>>388636638
Oh, sorry, guess I did.

Only option for devs these days is to choose whatever microtransactions they can sleep with and take the flak from the corner of the market that doesn't like that particular method.
>>
>>388637761
>forgot to mention that OW crates can also be obtained without paying real money.*

*if you're willing to grind 200 hours for a single crate
>>
>>388633572
OP posts can bump their threads as long as one other unique IP has posted between theirs
>>
>>388631948
At least it's in the right fucken board. Better than when they spam that shouty nintendo retard on /tv like he's some sort of movie critic

>take the flak from the corner of the market that doesn't like that particular method.

Only /v/ and reddit man children care anymore. The great micro transaction war is finished.

Is pubg f2p?
>>
>>388637557
Yeah but selling crates for $ is okay when Blizzard does it. Also, FUCK DRUMPF AND FUCK WHITE PEOPLE

t. totalbiscuit
>>
>>388638083
The irony is that you seem to be too young to remember a time when patches weren't commonly distributed online and consoles either didn't have readily available online access or sufficient storage space for them.
>>
>>388638504
Finally someone on this board old enough to post. These kiddies am I right? Probably had Halo for their first big game.
>>
>>388638504
When did anything I say imply that?
>>
>>388638298
Valve had been doing literally the same shit for ages with TF2 and CS:GO, and no one cared. You're not even guaranteed a single cosmetic with their crates, but a terrible alt-weapon instead. Are keys and boxes so fundamentally different that /v/ is happy to look the other way in Valve's case?
>>
>>388631425
Valve invited him to their HQ. He's just grateful, like we all would be.
>>
wtf /v/ supports crates now?

Threadly reminder that Jim actually works with all the companies he complains about.
They pay him to talk about their problems, thus people will automatically take the opposite opinion to him out of spite.
>>
>>388631425
reminder jim came on his face and showed it off to devolver
>>
>>388640625
pretty sure that was just cream or whatever.
>>
I don't think it's a really good game, but i think it's really valid, it offers the best experience in its battle royale niche, by best meaning in comparison to the competition which is none, and the game is updated regularly, even improving with each update as far as i heard.
i don't know if it'll collapse with a future patch or a new and better game or if the fad will just go away but i think it's there to stay for now and i'm okay with it.
>>
>>388639710
I don't get it either.
The world has changed too much. I'm too old.
>>
>>388636896
Serj Tankian is looking pretty young
>>
>>388632448
it's strange too because /v/ has a sizable portion of people who hate pubg because it represents to them all of the things they don't like in the video game industry- the downfall of single player games in favor of multiplayer ones, the rise of microtransactions, and the rise of games you cannot escape from because all of your friends are getting involved but you have no interest.
>>
>>388631594
No it isn't. In 3 years no one will care about it.
>>
> paying for an officially unfinished game
> paying to playtest
> paying for arbitrarily withheld cosmetic content in said game
> paying for all this while the dev originally promised to only "think about" microtransactions once the game is fully released
> defending all of this

In other games:
> paying for an unreleased game (aka pre-ordering)
> paying for unreleased, vaguely-defined additional content (aka season pass)
> getting successfully baited into preordering due to pre-order bonuses
> paying for a chance to receive arbitrarily withheld content (crates / card packs)

What is quality?
What is good value?
What is consumer protection?
Have the last 20 years of video games accustomed me to "unreasonably high standards"?
