Unlike previous CS games, CSGO went out of its way to promote its matchmaking and to obscure any presence of the old days of custom servers. They pretty much made it so everyone believes that 5 vs 5 should be the only way to play the game on virtue that it's "competitive" and that any other way is too imbalanced or not part of the main game. Why play any other way when it won't earn you a nice shiny rank to show how good you are? Why play custom maps when they are inherently imbalanced and not used in the competitive scene? Why go search for a decent server when matchmaking is right there to easily get you a game?

Hell, I'm almost certain that a huge of chunk of the playerbase doesn't even know what a server browser is.

CSS is the only I ever really liked, it feels the fastest out of the three. GO sucks dick and 1.6 doesn't have proper widescreen fov so it's miserable playing on a modern computer so I don't bother with it.
