Why does /v/ hate the Gravity Rush games?
>fun and creative gameplay
>great character design
>great world design
>fantastic music
Yet whenever I see it brought up its met with nothing buy negativity. Is it just because they're Sony exclusive?
>>
But I don't hate them
>>
Because nu-/v/ sees the world "anime" and start screeching like the autistic children they are.
>>
I have both of them sitting in my rack, but I just for whatever reason haven't had the motivation to start them. Probably because I'm not doing so well and don't want the games to be associated with a bad time in my life.
>>
>>388540938
Because the first game is decent at its best. I haven't tried the second one, but I'll get it on a discount cause I heard that the sequel improved on most of the flaws it had.

The movement is incredibly fun, but the missions are tedious and mostly awful, especially the stealth missions in 2. Still a real nice game with a cool story that explains things while still leaving a lot of lore hidden or open to inerpretation.

It gets more love than hate. A lot of the shitposting against it is just the "it looks like a weeb game so it sucks and that's the only reason you play it" sort of shitposting.

Valid complaints raised against it are usually about the combat/camera and nonsensical story, and while I disagree with some of them I can see why they'd bother other people.

I dunno, I feel like Gravity Rush 2 got a mixed reception because of the story. I always see people say that it was disappointing to them. It also gets overlooked when people talk about their favorite games from this year, and it sometimes doesn't even get mentioned when people talk about the memorable PS4 exclusives. Yeah, I thought it was kind of forgettable.

Can't complain too much considering it was free, but it throws in some time travel malarkey at the end that semi-retcons the most interesting parts of the first game and didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
>>
>>388540938
I liked the first one but it was 7/10 at best.

Oh well, at least your game is good, unlike P5 so you're an ok exclusivity.
>>
>>388552225
Weird. I'd known it was supposed to take place somewhere during the first and between the two games kind of like that animated short.

I guess I'll get to it eventually when I want to revisit the world.
>>
Japan Studio is underrated
>>
>>388552225
>that semi-retcons
yall niggas don't understand time travel

those events still had to happen in order for raven to reach the point where she could create the paradox that erased her past. they didn't just "not happen" any more. her past existing and then having to be erased for the sake of the universe are both integral parts of the story.
>>
WHy does GR have such a dumb story?
>>
>>388552621
Cool, doesn't change the fact that 90% of GR1 didn't happen in the GR2 timeline. Basically everyone is a different character with a different history. Kat fell down to Hekseville and then we no longer know what happened.

>>
>>388551854

>>
what should the next collab with GR be?
>>
>>388553702
I don't have an explanation, I'm just saying that it isn't a retcon. one set of events happening and then in-game time travel occurring to change those events to a different set is not a retcon.

an actual retcon would be something like the power armor situation in Fallout. they're supposed to run on fusion reactors that last for hundreds of years without refueling, yet in Fallout 4 they run on batteries that last only a few hours - a pure gameplay decision to balance how powerful the armor is. There is no story reason offered for why the change was made - rather, the writers are just asking us to pretend it was always like that, for the sake of gameplay. that's retroactive continuity.

the events in GR1 didn't just disappear because japan studio decided to pretend they never happened. the timeline changes directly because of what happens during Raven's DLC, and they're still a vital part of her character growth. it also lends a melancholic tone to her story because we see her actively sacrificing her own past in order to save the world.

Raven at the end of the DLC still seems to be herself, but with an enormous gap in her memory, and unlike regular amnesia there's no chance of her getting those memories back because the events no longer happened for her. it's supposed to be bittersweet.

>>388555421

>I'm just saying that it isn't a retcon
That's why that other Anon called it a semi-retcon. The DLC suddenly leaves a big fucking gap in between what happened after Kat fell down to Hekseville and the beginning of GR2. Yes, GR1 still happened, but GR2 doesn't finish GR1 Kat's story.
>the writers are just asking us to pretend it was always like that, for the sake of gameplay
So the writers just ask me to pretend the new timeline played out extremely similarly although huge parts of development between Kat and Raven is suddenly missing. Just for a bittersweet ending to Raven's story.

>>
>>388557304
Yeah, but there's no reason to ever actually use any of the other combat choices. Punching things is worthless since the damage is really low and dodging is just awful if you're not in the sky, using the stasis throw means you have to go find items to throw and even then they usually just fly around the enemy rather than accurately hit their mark and it's really finicky to pick it up, so the only other choice you're really left with is kicking everything.

>>
>>388556872
What did you want, exactly?

Did you expect the game to give you a complete recap of Kat and Raven's history together? The fact that GR2 events still happen in spite of the DLC means that, yes, whatever happens in the "new" timeline, events still play out in such a way that Kat and Raven do meet up and become friends and so on. We aren't told precisely what the new events are, but they are irrelevant because the fact that GR2 still happens means the new timeline still leads to GR2 happening.

Raven herself is an anomaly now. She doesn't have a "different" past, she has no past. She is a living paradox. The universe was forced to put her in that state in order to fix everything when she caught the bus.

This is describing GR1, not GR2.

Gravity kicking is still good, but the introduction of more varied enemies that are susceptible to other attacks makes those attacks useful. There are human enemies that your basic kicks can dispatch more quickly than having to get up into the air, aim back down at them and then gravity kick (you can also grab and throw them with stasis). There are quick airborne enemies that will usually dodge your basic attack, requiring you to switch to lunar style. There are heavily shielded enemies which are much more easily dispatched with a jupiter kick. Slide kicks are a very efficient way to move between ground-based enemies, like humans and lesser nevi.

If you actually played GR2 just like GR1 by gravity kicking everything, you were doing it wrong.

No it isn't.
Games run like shit on PC and the driver/compatiblity game is fucking cancer.
Also PC just isn't half as comfy as playing on a console.
Lastly only consoles get huge unique and ambitious AAA games that are actually designed to run on the type of hardware it is being released on. PC is a fucking mess with half the rendering tech build around toasters and the other half build around high end PC's of the most autistic kind.

A nice conclusion for the children in the ark. Maybe delve into the Kat/Raven split a bit without explicitly going into too much detail. Basically answering some open questions from the first and second game. Not some stupid time travel shenanigans that change huge parts of established characters for no reason. That's poor storytelling.

>We aren't told precisely what the new events are, but they are irrelevant because the fact that GR2 still happens means the new timeline still leads to GR2 happening.
What are you trying say here? I shouldn't care about the events leading to GR2 because GR2 happens anyway?

>Raven herself is an anomaly now.
Raven was always an anomaly, now she's just an anomaly that exists to appear in GR2's main story. Great.

They were saved from ever being lost to Boutome. We see them running around Hekseville in the aftermath, safe and sound.

Fun game, the challenges were awesome and you really feel like a god when you learn how to master the controls of this game. Learning curve of controls reminded me of the learning curve for TWEWY.
My biggest complaint is that the bosses just didn't feel all that good.

Still need to play GR2. Even if it's just to jack off to the cute girls.

You haven't been paying attention. There was a very good reason she had to do it.

You can not like it, but you can't just say there was no reason. That suggests you just don't understand what happened.

This game suffers from the same problem as mirror's edge. Combat is garbage and actively subtracts from the game. Should have focused more on platforming

I'm not talking about Raven, I'm talking about the writer who thought such a contrived scenario made for a good story for the last real GR content most players will experience.

Platforming was nontrivial in Mirror's Edge.

>their grandchildren
You literally see Sachya and Zaza.

>lol never happened
It didn't "never happen". Raven had to give up her past in order to prevent the children from falling and having to go through all that hardship, to allow them to stay in Hekseville an live normal lives.

There is a clear and tangible sequence of events leading to their safe return, and with the obvious and significant cost of Raven sacrificing her memories. It wasn't just a meaningless case of a proverbial finger-snap making everything okay again.

I can't make this any simpler for you. Come on.

One my gripes is there's a lot of unanswered questions about the plot and lore, all the art books and guides are in Japanese too so there's not much to go on. Hope they do GR3 to expand on this some day.

>doesn't mention the shit main story and how they handled the last few chapters
Story is the main draw of these games and while I was willing to accept the sudden ending of the first with the inevitability of a sequel, there was no excuse for how they decided to rush shit at the end knowing this is the last one.

Maybe try to not ask stupid questions.

>You literally see Sachya and Zaza.
They are Zaza's grandchildren. Their grandfather gave them their names. Sachya is named after an "imaginary" friend of him. How about you try to understand the story before you discuss it?

>It didn't "never happen"
From everyone's but Raven's perspective it did never happen. Every hardship those children and their parents had to suffer through and the following growth in character never happened. If I punch you in the nuts and rewind time, for you it never happened. From the player's perspective everything in GR1 is a what-if scenario.

>I can't make this any simpler for you. Come on.
And I'm kinda annoyed that I have to keep repeating that I'm not talking about that shit from Raven's perspective. Even then it never happened because, as you said

>How about you try to understand the story

Hey, don't be a condescending asshole just because I forgot what's ultimately a minor detail. Grandchildren, whatever. The point that you are supposed to take away from the DLC is that because Raven saved them they went on to live relatively normal lives instead of being trapped in Boutome. As shown by the fact that they had kids, I guess.

>Every hardship those children and their parents had to suffer through and the following growth in character never happened.
Whose character growth? They were all still kids down there thanks to the slower passage of time, and that nevi worm thing was gonna fuck them up real good. They weren't just saved from "hardship", they were saved from having their futures snatched away entirely via wormy death. Boutome was a death sentence.

If you meant Raven's, then yes, that was the fucking point. She gave up an important part of who she was in order to save the children. For other people in the world, time just played out in whatever way it did to lead up to the events of GR2, but the story isn't -about- those other people. It's about the fact that Raven suffered irreparable damage to ensure that safer timeline happened. That's the point of the story.

You can dislike it just fine, but you can't just write it off as "lol never happened". That's a completely asinine, lazy analysis of what happened.

How does Kat manage to beat Raven despite being generally weaker and a little slower?

>Hey, don't be a condescending asshole
>I can't make this any simpler for you. Come on.
Then don't start?

>Whose character growth?
Examples include Zaza taking on the role of a leader or Kat's new understanding of Raven's situation or realizing the dangers of the dark void poses for everyone.

>Boutome was a death sentence.
True, but that's why we got the Ark, which lead to nothing? Them dreaming a bit until all got reset?

>She gave up an important part of who she was in order to save the children.
She gave up the last 50+ years of everyone and everything. There could have been cases where the parents decided to adopt some kid of the street after losing their child. So what happened to that street kid now? Is it right for Raven to decide to just remove him from a caring household because she thinks it's better that her friends have a good life? You could have countless such stories in the span of all those years. The resets fucks up more than just Raven, everyone is affected by it. It's a common trope in time travel stories.

>That's a completely asinine, lazy analysis of what happened.
It's a what-if story that doesn't affect GR2 story and except maybe one characters at all. The Boutoum saga doesn't change the way Kat thinks about Raven or how she perceives the dangers of the black void, exactly because it never happened in the new timeline.
