The only unique things about him are his powers and the fact that he goes crazy rip and tear mode at like one specific point in the story. The more sceptical one is that Nasu just wanted to have a bunch of gruesome bad end scenes because they're cool and give him an excuse to write more Tiger Dojo shenanigans, while also ensuring that completionist fags have more shit to see. On the other hand, I could also argue that in a life or death situation your survival might depend on a bunch of split second decisions where a seemingly meaningless decision can be the difference between a horrible death and just barely making it out alive.


Either way, it doesn't really matter. Like I said before, I think you got into Fate expecting another Tsukihime and just read it for the chuuni conceptual powers and the cool fights, which are not what Fate does well at all. Shirou's ideals are unhealthy and fucked up, they're basically his way of trying to cope with severe childhood trauma and they're not even truly his since he's just trying to copy Kiritsugu. But in the end of the day, trying to help and save people is a good thing, and even if those beliefs are twisted and unnatural, they're still beautiful and worth pursuing. Archer is the result of Shirou living that life and eventually becoming bitter and regretful after being betrayed, but Shirou makes him realize in the end choosing to follow those beliefs was not necessarily wrong. Even if his obsession with saving others is actually just a coping mechanism that will end up leading him to misery, that's not gonna make him stop trying to follow those "fake" ideals of his, because in the end of the day being a hero is something worth pursuing. That's why that is the one route where Gilgamesh is the end boss, and Shirou has to beat his "real" treasurers with his "fake" projections, because the entire point of the route is that Shirou's "fake" ideals aren't worthless or wrong just because they're fake, and something that's fake can still have its value (so his ideals are worth pursuing and his swords can beat Gilgamesh's originals).

S is just a fandisk, it's not supposed to be as "good" as the original. I guess it's kind of in an awkward position since it's not like the original Majikoi was a super serious story driven VN in the first place, so it's not as obvious a transition as going from Muv Luv Alternative to Altered Fable, for example.

I played Ever17 after I'd already played 999, and I thought it was incredible. The game will trick you into thinking "oh, it's the same twist as 999 or VLR" but actually, there's some even crazier shit going on right below the surface. There's only one twist I really remember being recycled, but other than that the finale will seriously blow your mind.

What the hell dude? You don't have to turn off the voices, just don't wait for them to finish. Reading with or without voice acting shouldn't make any difference in the time it takes you, you can just let the voice play while you're reading and cut it short when you want to move on. If there's a climactic moment where you do want to listen to the voice acting fully you can wait then, but no one waits for every single voiced line to finish playing.

Sort of. English Edition is the translated version of the Perfect Edition, which contained all the improvements made to the Ecstasy Edition and Perfect Edition, minus the sex scenes. Which I'm okay with, Key sex scenes are pretty mediocre. I already have the CGs saved anyway.

I just want to experience the new routes and the route improvements since Ecstasy never got a translation. Till now, of course.
