take a break then. You don't have to force yourself to play. It took me quite a few years playing D1 on and off till mechanics clicked with me and I got hooked.

no need to understand much. Choose best item for your character, beat 10 stages inside it, get out and equip that item. The power boost may be enough to get thru some first story line hurdles.

On top of that, I found Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom, and Soul Nomad to be way more fun and way more memorable characters than any Disgaea after the first one.

well, your loss. Why you come into thread started with character then? Sure, not all of them great, but not all of them bad either. There are hit and misses, and that heavily depends on personal tastes.

Don't talk for everyone. Disgaea characters rememberable and loved. Sure, not by anyone. Most D2 cast is forgettable for me, still every game has at least few characters which stick with people.

Yeah. A good idea would be to put the innocents on your stronger weapon, don't fuse them with the not-subdued innocents, and then go the item world to upgrade your new weapon and subdue any innocents there. IIRC, when a weapon is upgraded via the Item World, it's stat growth is based on it's current stats, so if you have a subdued innocent on it (subdued innocents are worth double stats), you will maximize how much your weapon gets stronger.
