PS2 emulation is still pretty bad. Just because it plays your favorite games, or the top 10 most popular games, doesn't mean it "works flawlessly". See, when some guy wants to develop an emulator, he'll first make his favorite game playable. That's why the first PSP game emulated was Final Fantasy Crisis Core. It was the developer's favorite game. It ran the game flawlessly. But it didn't run all the other 999 PSP games. But it ran Crisis Core flawlessly. See the difference?

PS2 emulation is still pretty bad because most games still run on a bunch of speedhacks (like SNES emulation back in 1997), and the go-to problem solver is always "run it in software mode". And the compatibility wiki lists a ton of games as "playable", but don't mention (or mention it in passing) that you need to turn on software mode and the game runs at 5fps no matter what your rig is. It's not because your PC is shit. It's because the code is shit. You can have a 14Ghz processor and it still won't run all games on software mode at 60fps. Just because the emulator code is limited.

So when you say "Final Fantasy XII runs 100%" or "never had an issue with it", you're not the guy who tried to run random japanese game #152 to no avail, or the other guy who "ran Disgaea 100%", but his emulator craps out whenever he reaches Floor 30 of Item World.

See, "runs 100%" is not the same as "runs 100% of the 10 games I know". Know the difference. It could save your life.

(Incidentally, that's also why any port of a N64 emulator - even for the PSP - runs Mario 64 flawlessly).

PS2 emulation used to be bad but a couple of months ago I checked on my laptop and ran MGS3 with a decent framerate. Used to be only buffest rigs could handle it.

Well, it did. A couple PS3 games didn't have 30fps locks, just vsync. And most games can be hacked to support 60fps if you find the right code. MGS4 is a notable one that reached 60fps even on PS3.
