While I like IX the best, VII is probably the easiest to start with as far as the turned based games go. So go with that.

Almost all of them are better than the ones you've already played. 12, and 2 are the worst so except those. Just burn through em in any order. It doesnt really matter they've all aged rather poorly to be frank.

if you start with VI, VII or IX everything else will feel downhill from there. Just play them in order, I personally dislike FF3 DS and would say just skip to FFIV and play all of them up to X and XII, but really every one of them is a thousand times better than fucking FFXV

Based on the ones you've played I'd say X, XII and maybe VIII might be your thing

there is literally nothing wrong with FFXII, i really don't get the hate for it. the only complaints people ever seem to have are about the PS2 sound quality or that they don't like Vaan (who is usually completely ignorable)

FFXII HD pretty much makes the game as good as it could possibly be and I'd say give it a try. it's got a good 100hrs or so of content and lots of optional superbosses to fight in endgame.

Keep in mind that final fantasy fans can never agree on anything (except that Final Fantasy 2 is pretty shitty). You'll routinely hear the same games praised as both the worst and the best in the series. The only predictable things are: most people will agree Tactics is one of the best games in the series and people will always shit on the newest installment, regardless of how good or bad it is.

My favorite is 9 and I think 10 is the worst game in the series but someone who likes 13 might really enjoy 10, because 10 basically did the exact same shit 13 did, but didn't get shit on for it because people were blown away by its visuals and full voice acting (even though the VA was universally awful).

At least that scene has the excuse that they're intentionally awkwardly laughing. It's awful but it's appropriate for the scene. Most of the game is just fucking painful to listen to.

Play 2. It has a decent story, the extra party members are neat and it's not too long of a game. It's not as bad as people say.
If you have access to the PSP version there's a cool post game thing to play through.

Never played a single FF game, so gonna use this thread as an opportunity to get some opinions.

Which are worth playing, which should I start off on, and which are the best?

IV, VI, VII and IX are the most beloved games by the most fans, and the ones I could easily recommend to anyone.
Out of those, I'd say 7 is a safe bet for a beginner. It was a huge phenomenon back in the days, and it's still very enjoyable, atmospheric and even comfy game. The gameplay-mechanisms are simple enough for rookies, but hard enough to master, soo it keeps even experienced players interested. There's also tons of optional side quests, minigames, etc.

After that, choose your poison. Since the stories and worlds are (usually) not connected in any way, you can pretty much shoot blind. Different things appeal to different people, and that's also why there's so much arguments about various titles in the series.

I for example really liked the FF XIII trilogy as a whole, but I know that many bash it as the worst blunder of the millennium and death of the series.

The ones I would personally recommend skipping are the NES originals (1-3) and the MMOs (11 & 14). I also wasn't too fond of VIII and XII.
