Never played yakuza but finally a promising looking kenshiro game

Personally I thought 5 was a step down from 4.

The combat took some steps forward but other steps back. Climax Heat is cool but it's too easy to waste it. The new heat-spending moves like Kiryu's devil trigger are kind of shitty and they took out red heat for it which was actually a good mechanic. Some heat moves are harder to trigger, while others are way too easy to trigger (Akiyama's wall bashing one). The weapon skill system is awful. The forced level cap until endgame sucks.

Having five cities doesn't mean five cities worth of content, it's just spread out more. Kamurocho is practically barren compared to 4. This double sucks since you can only visit cities with their related character, even in premium adventure.

Also one of the worst things: Not being able to make clear data in premium adventure which practically makes the mode worthless and kills motivation to actually do completion stuff.

Playing through Ishin, is Takechi Hanpeita based on a returning character or is he the only 'new' character in Ishin (so far, anyway)? He's the only one I don't recognize.

Think he'll have a Yakuza tattoo?

Omi wasn't suffering the same problem as Tojo. They were still overwhelmingly powerful and much stronger than the Tojo, and basically had a stranglehold on their location.

Even it's ambitious up-and-comers weren't struggling too much with in-fighting. Just with fucking up the Tojo when they know their truce is up soon and their chairman's on the way out (which he apparently already is in this upcoming game).

Good on them for finally crushing the shit-tier tojo losers.

Curious about his demeanor. If he's replacing Kiryu (a man who could solve most of his decisions with his magical fists of enlightenment) then he better have something going for him.

I kinda wish they'd gone with another younger guy like Tatsuya from the Black Panther games. He felt like the ideal change from Kiryu, given he was strong enough to beat the shit out of punks, hotblooded, and did some Iori-tier shit like his laugh after seemingly killing a man with his bare hands, but in gameplay and plot the idea of taking on like 10 dudes (even regular gang members) was a massive struggle.

With Kiryu, you can literally throw a tank and a helicopter at him along with 100 men and a couple tigers, while he has a poisoned knife stab wound and two bullet wounds from a cutscene he just won't give a shit.

Personally I'd blame this on Devil Trigger being the best one out of the lot and as soon as you switch over you just get garbage.

The only things it lost are the not-Le Marche store in the underground mall, gelato shop was replaced with that highball food stall, and the rooftops were removed. Everything else is the exact same as 4 so I don't see how it's "Practically barren" when the only big loss was the rooftops that only housed Saigo, the illegal weapons van, and Kamiyama's accessory shop. Hell, I just spent like 20 hours doing all the stuff I could in Kamurocho that wasn't gambling as Saejima.

Weapon skills are the single worst choice they've ever made, especially since they're not shared. Weapon skills should have been like in Dead Souls where it stays constant between each character, but instead they made it so you have to start from level 1-3 on certain skills and grind them all the way back up again to max for no reason when the bonuses aren't even that great. Level 3 of a skill is arguably the best one since it means no durability loss from blocking.

Kenzan has a glossary for terms and then another glossary for the characters in the game (If I remember right you could also press triangle during certain new phrases but I can't remember right now) but that game needs zero knowledge of any Japanese history. The historical accuracy for characters is basically just using their name and a very general summary of who they were. I mean, the most "Japanese history" Kenzan got was a joke substory about a fake Benkei guarding the bridge where you fight Amon. The entire game is made so you can follow it with no knowledge at all of any Japanese history from the time, I can attest to that since I only knew the name of the Edo period, how the houses looked, what geisha were, the fact that Musashi used two swords, what Kabuki theater is, and who Benkei was, that's literally it. They even outright explain any terms that might be a bit too old inside of the cutscenes like what Ryo were, how expensive a single Ryo actually is, what a yuujo was, the one term for the younger girls, what a Kakemawari is, and so on.

Onimusha, Genji and Nioh combined don't have as much plot going on as Ishin, to say nothing of the feudal society stuff that, at least in the opening hours, is the main characters main motivation. They spend so much damn time talking about the differences between goshi and shirafuda goshi and shit.

If you're not Japanese, the worst you'll miss out on with a Nioh is that you won't recognize the yokai designs from fairy tales, or some historical characters that only show up in 2 minute cutscenes and a bossfight. I can't speak too much about Onimusha but from what I remember about the first Genji, that's 95% action and 5% plot as well.

Weirdly enough, he reminds me a lot of the protagonist of the old yakuza movie Tokyo Drifter. It's the one about a yakuza member who is fired by his boss, and basically ordered to become a drifter.

What really struck me was that in the end, after ultraviolence, his boss offered him his job back. But he refused, and said "My new loyalty is to the path of the drifter" and wandered off.

Yakuza 2 didn't need a remake/upgrade as much as 1 did. The gameplay changes between 1 and 2 were such a great improvement that it plays closers to later games in the series.

The Fist of the North Star game is far more exciting.

Because Kiwami means Extreme in Japanese, but what does it mean in this context?
It means they reuse the assets Kiwami style, meaning everything is rehashed to the point they use PS2 animations and reskin the mini-games from the previous title.
They don't need to improve the combat because they can make additional cutscenes of fan favorite character and make him playable (see Majima) and all those fans will love it.

They have cut their R&D funds instead of lowering hardware price like the retards they are so now they are behind the competition in technology while still selling overpriced junk.
Their gaming division is the only division of Sony that is still making profits.
Their Hollywood one though is by far the biggest blackhole, producing flop after flop.
